Guardiola to Axe Kompany (Various Sources)

I meant then that kolorov would play left back.
I mean really you could put John there and play Ottamendi with Vinny. Zab the right back.ten times the defence we have now.

that's all well and good but could vinnie ping those 90 yrd hollywood passes like the master kolorov

A few more quotes from Guardiola's press conference:

“The reason why [he didn't feature against Boro or Monaco] is because he didn’t play games because he was injured,” Guardiola Said. “He was a long time injured and sometimes he has arrived and been injured again.

“It was a risk, I wanted to be sure.

“Now he is going to the national team to play more minutes. I wanted to be sure he can compete from the beginning, don’t waste one game because he cannot play 90 minutes, or maybe when we play the last 15, 20 minutes he’s injured again.

“I would like a little bit more time to be sure. But, of course, we are so happy he is fit.

“It was our desire from the beginning of the season but he was not fit. There are a lot of processes, a lot to do when you are not involved.

“Sometimes you need to see he understand that to do that. The first step is to be fit to make a training session and in the last two weeks he’s been there.”

Just watched the presser. Not sure what else Pep can say right now (same applies to Toure too). But even reading between the lines of what he's saying it's so obvious that Vinny's done at City.

Pep's "i've got all the power" comment yesterday was also very telling for me. Even though we all know he's got ultimate control over the club right now, it shows how confident he is in that position that he's more or less happy to say it in the press conference after a poor result in midweek.

We've been incredibly fortunate that Kolorov has done well and him, Stones and Ota have been relatively injury free. Had that not been the case we could have been in real trouble this season. Pep must know that.
The 2011 team has pretty much run its course and Pep needs to shape the next team of champions sadly that won't include one of our greatest ever defenders and captains.

Obviously i'm just speculating, but for me it's clear we came into the season with an imperfect squad which was in transition. As such there was always going to be risks attached in certain position and yes, we have been lucky with regards the defenders who have stayed fit. However I suspect that had any of them shown any injury worries in the first half of the season we'd have bought a defender in January.

It's a shame what's happened to Vinny but in general I believe that players have cycles at clubs. You can be finished at a club without your career being finished through no fault of your own or the club's. I feel as though that's the case with almost all of the 11/12 title winners. In many respects what happened last summer and will happen this summer should've happened at the end of Pellegrini's first season in charge. That was the last hurrah and we should've used that title win to realise value on the players who helped win it and also to begin the process of replacing them with younger players.

It's all more or less irrelevant now. Personally I've got faith in Pep to make the right decisions for the squad. I think the Bravo/Hart situation has clouded a lot of opinions but for me that's an exception rather than some kind of foreshadowing of what happens next.
