Guardiola to Axe Kompany (Various Sources)

Obviously i'm just speculating, but for me it's clear we came into the season with an imperfect squad which was in transition. As such there was always going to be risks attached in certain position and yes, we have been lucky with regards the defenders who have stayed fit. However I suspect that had any of them shown any injury worries in the first half of the season we'd have bought a defender in January.

It's a shame what's happened to Vinny but in general I believe that players have cycles at clubs. You can be finished at a club without your career being finished through no fault of your own or the club's. I feel as though that's the case with almost all of the 11/12 title winners. In many respects what happened last summer and will happen this summer should've happened at the end of Pellegrini's first season in charge. That was the last hurrah and we should've used that title win to realise value on the players who helped win it and also to begin the process of replacing them with younger players.

It's all more or less irrelevant now. Personally I've got faith in Pep to make the right decisions for the squad. I think the Bravo/Hart situation has clouded a lot of opinions but for me that's an exception rather than some kind of foreshadowing of what happens next.
There's no doubt we need change and we're in a transitional period similar to Chelsea a few years ago. Kompany and Tevez led us to our first sustained period of success since the 60s but at the very highest level we fall short.
Pep has consistently done well in the Champions League and we haven't. It's a combination of mentality and quality
with this group of players. Even with Kompany in the team we've made defensive mistakes. We need new players to lead this change.
I trust Pep to do this and actually Bravo aside think recruitment has got better this year since Pep arrived. Mancini had a blind spot on pace.
I hope Kompany remains on some capacity but as a player he takes up a valuable squad place.

I remember Bell out injured after Buchan crippled him in '75. We all waited, hoped and prayed he'd recover and be his magnificent former self. I remember paul Lake's cruciate injury in '90, great when he played and widely tipped as future England captain.

And Vincent Kompany. His good self and Dave Watson are the finest central defenders i've ever seen in a sky blue shirt. But unlike Watson, Kompany was arguably regarded. as the best in the world at one time.

I think many are hoping Vinny can get back to his best and magnificent self, hankering for the past and how he was and still can be.

Last summer a good mate said a friend of his friend is part of the medical staff, claiming(for what. It's. Worth) Kompany was finished. I told my mate I'd already thought and accepted that. You can see It in Vinny's body language. He's frightened of committing himself, for he knows that athletic stretching tackle will be one that could finish him for good.

He was reliable and rock solid Now(as harsh as it sounds) he's as fragile as an 8x4 sheet of glass with a runner(crack) in it.

Time to accept our Vinnie is finished as a player for us unfortunately.. : (

The Bravo/Hart situation appears to be the primary reason some will not give Pep a break, subsequently they have decided they dont like the man and are now actively seeking any stick to beat him with.Personally i think its a very blinkered outlook because, while Bravo hasnt been a success and his performances have provided further ammunition for his detractors,i'm convinced the decision was made for the right reasons and that, given the time,Pep will transform us into a team we could only dream about.

We need to stand together, this developing divide is a weakness,it isnt healthy and it obviously wont do us any favours going forward.......whatever happens with Vinny,we again have to trust that it will be the right decision for all.

You should be careful mate. Before you start suggesting that people aren't giving Pep a chance you need to go back through your own posting history and make sure you've never criticised a manager. The Bluemoon Hypocrisy Police will be watching. ;)

Well,i'm sure many are aware of my stance on a previous manager, but that was a very different scenario and it was far from kneejerk.

Pep is the most sought after manager in the world of football,we need to allow him to prove why thats the case.

The Hart/Bravo situation was right reason and logic but wrong person coming in. It will need resolving.

I read this morning that Kompany won't be playing for Belgium so not sure if that's true or not.

Actually, I think that's part of the problem. I see it from certain corners. They consistently refer to Guardiola as a "genius" in wholly sarcastic terms. You get the feeling that they don't like/trust him but equally aren't brave enough to say it clearly.

I agree.

For whatever reason......Hart needed to go.However,as far as a replacement was concerned, availability was a big problem IMO.

I think Bravo was deemed the best option at the time, and irrespective of his impact(or lack of),i dont think he was ever a long term proposition.

It's also fair to say that when we were buying him he was considered one of the top goalies in the world. It's not worked out like that but at the time the logic in targeting him was sound.

There is no problem. Guardiola is manager and he isn't going to get deflected by tabloid critics.

Over the entire season, attacking has become a problem, but one which I think has been addressed with the Sane and Jesus buys. That largely leaves defence and there Guardiola and MCFC have no choice but to bring in new players because Sagna, Zab, Toure etc are well past it.

Disappointing to go out of the Champions League to a team I think we should have beaten, but Sane and Jesus have got me entirely convinced that the future if very bright. A powerful central defender and maybe a keeper would dramatically improve City.

We're not underperforming, we're doing what you expect for a team that plays all out attacking football with defenders who are too slow. Replace the defensive players, which we will do in the Summer and we'll win everything. The keeper is also a huge issue/impact
