Guardiola to Axe Kompany (Various Sources)

You seem to forget Kompany too is culpable in that accusation. His lack of interest on Southampton's goal was pretty telling.

I don't think Pep thinks Kompany is as good as most fans do. Which is normal. Most fans still view Komps through the prism of What He has accomplished while Pep simply views it from what he currently does.

I. Won't lie to you, I haven't seen anything special from Kompany in 3 years. People bend over backwards to ascribe overall performances to him which is normal as they do it with many of our other greats too.

But a blockbuster performance from him I haven't seen in a while. The best defensive performances I've seen in the last 3 years have all come from Otamendi Zab or Sagna. And this season maybe 1 from Kolarov.

Komps at best has been decent in his appearances the last few years. Hence why people ascribe team calmness, confidence, belief and all these other unquantifiable characteristics to him, because its hard to point at any great individual performance.

And also they sometimes ascribe a win or a clean sheet to his presence. Its all fine and good, but nothing Komps has done recently suggests he is any better than the other 3 CBs. Pep on the other hand seems to think he might be worse based on his actions.

Either way I think he is at about the same e level.

In terms of specifics:
He is probably the best header of the ball
He is probably the weakest passer of the bunch.
Definitely the weakest carrying the ball forward.
Not as good as Ota at either tackling or intercepting, but likely better than the others.
His tactical positioning has been lauded here often, I'm not so sure it is justified.
But lets assume it is true that he is the best at defensive positioning. He is clearly the worst at positioning when we are in possession.

So there are advantages and flaws to his inclusion in games.

I find it funny that you can see all those faults with VK and you had no trouble seeing all of Hart's faults either but by fuck you were blinder than blind when it came to a certain new edition between the sticks, people quick to knock legends while defending the indefensible, it is an odd site at times.

Damocles, Shears and Fantasy Ireland, sneering and looking down their nose at anybody who deigns to have a different opinion to themselves, one out of that lot hated our most successful manager since Mercer and all of that while he was winning trophies but woe betide you if you don't back Pep to the hilt, if you do not you are nothing more than an foolish idiot.

It is a good job I believe he will be successful but still it doesn't stop you having a bit of a worry about some of the things that have happened this season.

I said Andy Carroll would be rubbish for us in 2010 when the whole world was wanking over him.

That wasn't levelled at you specifically. I was agreeing with your point, but in good old Damo fashion your back went up straight away.

I can see fault in everyone. Your problem is you only seem to notice when I disagree with you.

A new guy comes to a team so I give him a chance to settle. This shouldn't be mistaken for saying he is playing great. I never pretended Bravo was playing great. Nor do I pretend Komps has been playing great of late.

So if neither is starting, you don't hear me whinning about it.

Nor am I moaning about bringing Joe back. Coz I can see his not doing spectacularly at Torino either.

That's the difference btw us. You whine when your favs aren't played or are moved on. I don't. I simply point out why its plausible for them not to be playing.

Am I a Pep clapper? Mostly. Bit I disagree when he messes up his own philosophy. Like he did at Monaco.

Alex Ferguson took St Mirren from nowhere to somewhere - took Aberdeen (one step up) from reasonable Scottish team to European glory and then took Them lot to continual success so proving a good manager can do it at all levels (and by the way Messi is a player and not a manager)
Took Fergie some time to do it with them lot, seem to remember calls for him to be sacked in first full season and just about avoiding the drop

Disagree, it wasn't bad defending that dropped 2 points against Stoke. It wasn't bad defending that stopped us burying Chelsea to 4-1 or putting Spurs to bed, bad defending put us 2-0 down in Monaco but we were woeful across the pitch for most of that game yet still had 4/5 chances in 5 minutes that would have put us 3/4-2 up on the night and killed the tie. We're not ruthless in front of goal and even Boro was a torturous exercise in watch us endlessly fuck chance after chance up.

If we'd finished like Chelsea this season, we'd be top by a comfortable margin and in the quarter-finals regardless of how poor our defending is. As Pep says, you attack well you defend well, and we wouldn't talk half as much about our defending and goals we concede if the supposed stars up front scored the simple chances they get half a dozen times per game, every game.

You'll see next season. Pep knows the defenders are shit and doesn't want to put pressure on them by blaming them for defeats.

At the end of the day we have full backs who would struggle to get into more than half of the league. You don't win the PL when that's the case.

Having a better defence allows you to attack better as the ball bounces back your way more often than not. The best example I could give is Watford at home in the FA Cup when we were 2-0 down at HT. During the break Mancini took off Lescott and Richards and people wondered why as it was goals we needed. Kompany came on with Zabaleta from what I remember.

In the 2nd half every time Watford attacked, the ball bounced back our way as they couldn't get through and each time we hit them on the counter.

Those changes gave us a firm foundation at the back to be able to go on and get the win.

Careful bluealf, if you don't watch it they'll accuse you of being a rag, as I found when I expressed an opinion some time ago. Being a blue doesn't mean you can't have an opinion. Pep will be successful, but occasionally some of us want to discuss things.

Generally, I've been slated on here for pointing out Joe Hart's monumental clean sheet record for us and England (much better than Neuer's internationally) and for speculating on what the owner might think when he looks at the money he's spent on some players and their wages. Been watching City since 67 BTW.

My wife always jokes that to me. She says there is no way you got an "A" in your first O level at 10, got a 1st in your degree and how on earth you work for an employer - manage 8000 staff and pull in 450k a year whilst you are so thick is a joke and soon you will be caught out.
Even is the alternate universe where that's true it still makes you sound like an absolute dick.

No whining from me, I have not replied to you since our argument from way back, mainly due to you not being able to read what I was typing, it seems something similar is happening again.
I haven't said anything about Hart coming back to play for us in that post but it is an easy deflect for the casual reader to see and form an instant opinion about a poster.
VK wasn't one of my favs but he is the best centre half in this club, the conversation ?I was having in this thread was really about Pep saying VK was fit to play but then not playing him, your input was to wade into a club legend and list all the faults you think he has, I then referenced Bravo due to the huge set of blinkers you and many other had on at the time, telling everybody that they were pretty much Hart fan boys and Bravo would be our number one for a long time to come and we better deal with that (Hello Willy), negating to think that if Bravo had come in and played like a top 5 keeper in the world then we wouldn't have been as bothered, yes we would have a little bit as nobody likes to see legends treat like ****s and fired out the door.

I prefer not to slate legends of the club when they are coming to the end of their time with us, see the thread for Zabs and the huge amount of disrespectful posts in there, each of us is different and if you get your jollies out of thinking that VK is a bad passer of the football and can also not bring the ball out of defence, just so you can be top of the class in the back Pep is always correct group then fair play to you.

Like I did say, I hope Pep is very successful with us, I hope he pisses off all the doubters in the press and wins over the doubters on here, it will mean we have gone up to the next level as a club but and this is the big but... we all don't have to kiss his arse every step of the way and agree with everything he has done is doing or will do in the future.
