Thoughts guys - quality difference between US and Mexican built Fenders.

Forget value appreciation / depreciation etc - pound for pound, how do they stack up?

If we under took a Pepsi challenge, would we all pm able to pick the American made by ear or is it just a facade?

@Bill Walker where's your head at on this one?

Ebay and it's not been purchased ;-)

Edit: how have you spotted it as a fake?
I suppose it could be a dodgy camera angles so I can't say for definite it's a fake but I'm suspicious. It's hard going from pics I'd have to take the control plate and truss rod cover off to have a look in there, examine the pots and truss rod cavity (Chinese never get that right) and I'd like to examine the fret ends to see if the binding covers them (it did in 2014)

Things that look a bit "off"

Grover tuners not in line (especially the G and A strings)
Grover tuners not correct shape
Crown market at 3rd fret looks crooked, not in line with fret.
12th fret crown marker I can't make out what that is
The headstock wings don't look in the right place
Gibson logo font looks a bit too thick
Never see the word "model" after the date on a Gibson
There is a lot of ink used on the date & serial stamp

Does it have the original case and case candy ?

I bought a Fender Nashville Telecaster about 16 years back. Its Mexican built. Cant tell you exactly about the 'pepsi challenge' but before I bought it I read plenty of opinions that certain mexican tele's are better build than american ones and this influenced my choice so maybe a bit of searching might answer your question. Its a lovely guitar

In my limited experience. A modern guitar at the MIM price point will be well made, play well and sound great. The jump in price to an American made will never be justified by better quality / sound, not to say it isn't better it's just that it's so marginally different that it's hard to put any price on it let alone a big number. But what price do you put on the real authentic thing.

I own a mim tele and it's more than enough guitar for me.

Rear view of a genuine Gibson, this one has Gibson tuners. Notice the stamp is much fainter (no ink) and the word "model" is not there.

Great attention to detail mate.

I've got a Mexican Tele and it's lovely.

As with anything I kind of think that some will sound / feel great (whether US or Mexican). They will all be different pending the year of manufacturing and spec.

I'm half tempted to buy one of each and sell the other one on (pending preference).

I just don't trust myself to get shut of one........... :-(
