Guitar Thread

What guitars have folks been playing/ buying recently?

Starting to get itchy feet again (not that I have the money but credit cards are there for a reason).........
Still GASsing over the Harley Benton's on Thomann...if you dont know them they are the "house brand" of Thomann...incredible guitars with amazing reviews....and VERY VERY cheap.

Thnk gonna pull the trigger on getting this:

still working on my C / G switches.

I find G with index on 5th, middle on 6th and ring on 1st to be the easiest position by far but this makes transition to C (index on 2nd, middle on 4th and ring on 5th) quite a large jump. Therefore i am practicing the G with middle on 5th, ring on 6th and finally pinky on 1st. This does make the transition simpler, moving two fingers just one string and having the index ready, but my little finger will not behave!! it's all over the shop!! missing the fret board, hitting the wrong strings, i've got feck all control over it

Try Wonderwall. It’s a progression that involves C and G but with ring and pinky on 3rd fret 2nd and 1st. They’re not exactly open C and G but they make it easier to transition by 320033 and X32033.

Or you can try a G with the 1st for now, like 32000-.

But working on that X32010 and 320003 will be worth while though. I know that methodically the G is played without index but I’ve been playing for 20+ years and still never ever used the non-index G ever. Many musicians don’t either.

And don’t be concerned with progress when starting out. Everyone starts somewhere. The muscle memory will kick in once you surrender to the groove.

+1 for Cort. I’ve just picked up a Cort D8 acoustic and it’s the best acoustic I’ve played. All solid, really well built and sounds great.

Very bonnie looking acoustic - have I been living under a rock, not sure I've ever come across Cort before.............

I just bought a Cort C4 Bass.
A lot of bass for not a huge price $600 new.
Plays passive or active, has a Markbass pre amp built in. Nice woods also. Bartolini pickups.
Nice to play. If anyone is looking for a great bass at a reasonable cost I recommend it.

How man guitars you up to now Bill?

Which is your fav?

I always fancied getting a fretless Bass but was reluctant to stump up the cash. I bought a Harley Benton and have been really impressed with the build quality and the sound.

I still don’t sound like Mick Karn but at leat I have the right instrument now

Not many mate. I sold a couple earlier this year, a Gibson 345 and an Ovation acoustic.
The guitar I have that I like playing the most is my Parker PM10. It just feels so nice and is made to exacting standards. They went bust in 2016 I think, I don't know why as they are superbly made guitars.
I still have my Les Paul, but if I played a gig tomorrow I'd use the Parker, it's lighter and more comfortable and the action is better, no dead spots.
I have a Fender Jazz Bass and now the new Cort bass which I put higher than the Fender, it's just a better bass with an ton of tones due to the active pre amp and the blend knob, high mass bridge, great woods.
Incredible when you think a new Fender would be 4 times the price and a Rickenbacker more like 6 times the price (if you have the name, bleed people dry) :)

Been almost 12 months since I got the first guitar. A Donner acoustic from Amazon for £90.
To be fair it does what I need it to do, I've learned the major chords, some scales, strumming patterns and all that. Started to piece it all together and got some songs under my belt too.

But I promised myself a new guitar if I was still enjoying it - and I am. Lots.

So, I'm looking at Yamaha FG guitars. Got my eye on the FG800, FG820 or FG830. Anyone played any of them that can offer any advice?

Also, looking for Twitter accounts I could follow as a not-so-new beginner?

Great stuff that mate - wonderful effort.

I can certainly recommend the FG720S and the LL6 range. Have a lovely almost matte(?) feel to the neck so your hand doesn't stick and lovely to play.

Extremely good value in my eyes............

Youtube is the best place for people to follow...but find one you like and stick with it...or you end up with dozens of tutorial videos and no time to actually play :-)

Ive been playing for years and i still enjoy watching/learning from these:
