Think it is just old. You can see some fret markers have fallen off over the years.

Guitar still works and sounds lovely, though. Just needs a re-string and a bit of polish.

Can definitely tell the quality of it is much higher than the Donner I've been practicing on. It kind of exposes where I need to improve on my strumming technique....but I love it. Once I get loosened up and stop karate chopping the strings it sounds amazing!
Can actually do barre chords on this one too with the action being much better suited to my ability at the moment. All in all, couldn't be happier with it!

looking for a step-up acoustic - started learning back in April, making some ok headway (slow and steady!), and i bought a reasonably nice Tanglewood steel strings for £100. Looking at investing a little more now...£250 maybe? any good makes and models that are tried and tested? i know fuck all about guitars, in that sense

Know what your looking for in a guitar, playability is often overlooked. Take someone with you who knows what they are looking out for., Neck warp, intonation probs, tuning issues ect. You need to give a guitar a good run through playing wise to check for dead notes ect. Plus, smaller retail shops are often open to a haggle even on brand new gear. I got 600 knocked off my PRS CE, 200 off a Fender amp and 80 squid knocked off a second hand pedal also got a stand, a snazzy strap, pro standard leads, strings and a free service thrown in, although I think the service came free with the guitar. Hope this helps.

Loads of utube reviews on guitars. This is a great place to start.



Choosing a good guitar is one thing, getting it set up right is another. I'd budget a set up in as well. A small shop might do this or buy on line and take it in, an initial set up might be cheaper if you keep the original strings.

thanks both. I agree -dabz on the playability, i was given the choice of 4 or 5 guitars when i went in for my first one, i asked for lower price range but for him not to tell me the prices; i'd only had 2 lessons at that point so all i could do was very clumsily play the chords i knew, generally hold it and get a feel generally, but i ended up with the 2nd cheapest, it just felt nice and sounded nice (in a very unknowledgable sort of way, back then). So yeah, i wont forget that, the feel and the sound.

youtube scares me, but for sure that looks a good starting place, thanks

To be fair, Yamaha is a pretty good intermediate guitar from my own experience.

Lovely feel and doesn't break the bank.

Apologies this is £300 but took my about 3 minutes to stumble across it.........
