In the 80's it is fair to say that City didn't have the best away following in football, fans used to get themselves in a frenzy about certain grounds and teams ( current topic of Utd & Wembley spring too mind )

Give me some City away matches you went to in the 80s mate please...

Went to most aways between 80 - 87, what is your point, if you think we had a great away following in that era, your wrong. In that period the seasons we were in the top level our away support with the odd exception wasn't great, we rarely sold out for London games and you never struggled for a ticket for any away match.

We did have a good following in the lower leagues, but you would expect that with smaller stadia and a more succesful team on the park ie promotions

A gorton lads exploits .of lifes ups and downs, with his beloved Manchester CITY and life in general.

Well done for having a book published. Not read it but will do. I know anybook that talks about football violence from the past gets its fair share of critics...but it was part of a big youth culture and a way of life for many. Good luck with it i say!!

Me too!

I tagged along to strangeways with a school chum many years ago to see benny, top lad.
Had many a good day with him, Bradford away being one of them (morley), great memories.
People on here slating him and calling him a scrote need to get a fcuking grip ffs. He's City through and through and if he wants to write a book, good luck to him.

That young guvnors book makes me laugh. Was it proof read or edited? Full stops, not there. Paragraphs? Fuck em! It reads like it was written in crayon.

I remember much fighting and rioting but these particular people mean nowt to me

There's alot of books out there I guess

You weren't there mate. Sussed you.

Some of away followings in the mid 80's were ok given that football crowds in general were low mainly due to the hooligan problem throughout. Seem to recall watching us win 1-0 at Millwall and we only had around 800 there. That said we took a few thousand to places like Plymouth, Grimsby etc so all in all our away support was better than most

I don't remember anybody getting tickets for away games in the 80s.You paid on the gate.Whichever club you supported.

The odd game was all ticket but in the main you could just pop along and pay at the turnstiles for the terraces.
