You're all clearly too young to have a clue what happened. Most of the time we were getting stabbed beaten to fk or legged by the likes of Chelsea, Man Yoo, Tottenham, West Ham etc

You either stood your ground or ended up in hospital. Mate

Or you didn't get involved in the first place. I thought no innocent fans where touched ? Or is that another myth put about by idiots that just wanted to act the hardman with all their mates.

wtf are you babbling on about? When firms attack you in numbers you fight mate. That's it. Clearly you're one of those who'd leg it and leave it to others to save yr arse. Anyway...my point was that calling Mickey a knuckle dragger is a bit much to take from people who know fk all.

OMG You're so fucking manly and brave. I now know where I've been going wrong all my life.
Up until now I'd been giving all my respect to people who fought for their country. You know, Falklands vets and Gulf 1&2 vets, people who served in Bosnia and NI.
I should have realised that it was a few dozen pissed up City fans that deserved my praise. Up until now I hadn't realised how much you had done for me...

Ok mate..you win. We are all scum and you're a saint.

Can't be arsed.

Sorry Mickey. I'm too thick to argue with these college kids.

I read Guvnors a few years back - its worth a read.

A lot of the 'older' generation of City fans (or people in general) cannot understand the facination which the younger generation has with the hooligan firms. I went through a stage when I loved reading about it (not just the violence) - its something I wasn't old enough to see, so your always going to be interested in what you don't know when its surrounding City issues.

Just watched a 9 minute 'behind the scenes' clip on youtube of that Away Days film. Looks pretty good - the fashion and the music is something else I find interesting from the past. But I wouldn't go buying a load of funny coloured Adidas Stan Smiths because of the film - in the same way that most sensible people can enjoy the violence without becoming a violent person.

For the record Green Street is a load of shit, whereas Football Factory I find quite entertaining as there's some great lines in it. The best part of FF is the non violence related stuff.

Brilliantly well put liam.

I read the Guvnor's book a few years back and loved it because it gave me an insight into what it could be like following City before i was born.

I'm 23 and have never been involved in any trouble at football.
I always like having a pint with my dad and listening to his tales of away games in the 70's and 80's and how dangerous it used to be.
When i was old enough to start going out for a pint I occasionally spoke to a couple of the older lads that used to go to the games with my
dad and they told me more, said they were all into it, every week, home and away there was trouble at the match and that was very much part of the enjoyment.
I realise now that my dad never used to mention to me about all the trouble and violence that he was involved in. For one simple reason. He's embarrassed about it now.
He has grown up, has children and with that, responsiblities.

So in summary, reading these books and keenly listening to stories about my dad getting chased back to the station at Wolves in the 70's
doesn't mean i want to be involved in it.
It's just interesting stuff.

I don't really ever comment to much about peoples pasts and what folk got up to, but what worries me is that we have become nanny state and with all nanny states you will always get the so called freedom fighters. Now this is fine if your talking about someone parking on a double yellow line or having a ciggy where they shouldn't, but when your talking about a group of blokes fighting your almost guaranteed to see horrendous injuries and most likely death in this modern society.

We don't get fisty cuffs no more, instead we have guns, knifes and lets jump on this guys face whilst he's unconscoius because I'm taking this further and want everyone to fear me/us.

I realise that no one here is talking about bringing gang violence back into football, but the very mention of running with a group of lads and having an allegence with them gives way to something that worries me, lets keep it where it is...Dead and stop writing about it. That way we won't get a modern day firms running around the Coms knifing or worst shooting into a crowd, because that will happen with the pretend gangsters of today the guys that jump on your head WILL have that passion to take it one step to far.

Why did I mention nanny state, because we are always being told what to do and this disolves our ability to think beyond our actions and our responcibilties and there's a certain type of modern day man that don't think and don't give a fuck about anything, but being respected. Sadly for them they know very little about the word respect. So it always worries me when a film comes out as some knob/s will be walking around the coms thinking their ten men and looking for bovva!!

An excerpt from Young Guvnors (warning, writing style may make your eyes bleed). If only they'd spent less time rucking & more time listening in their English lessons.

There is no doubt that in the 70's and 80's hooliginsm was rife and werever you went they was most proberbly going to be some sort of trouble whether it be a few digs exchanged or a full scale mass brawl with it going of everywhere.
There is no doubt with disasters such as hillsborough and heysel that fired hooligans into world news, that something had to be done and something was done. Policing techniques got better along with the development of CCTV and this was the demise of the ''old school hooligan'' who would kick off wherever and whenever he could.

Hooliginism nowadays is well underground but it is still around. Take stoke away this year, city had a right crew out that day and it was easy to see, yet the firm was wired from the start by dibble. they new when they were hear, who was about, were it could potentially go off and did a good job at stopping trouble, although the organisation of those buses was a discrace. With city's lads having a firm out that evening/night it kicked of in town with the rags with apparently city coming out on top. it just shows that if you go looking for it you will get it.

Now i dont condone hooliginism nor do i revil in it i feel that the lads who took part init during the 70's and 80's did it for a purpose whther it be for the buzz, how they grew up or simply just to do something different on a saturday afternoon. There is no doubt innocent people did caught up in it i mean lets be honest going to the swamp, anfiled or leeds back the n it was hard not too. Guvnors is a Good read and there is a point to reading it as its interesting relating to away days that you went to when something happened. ctid

Read the Guvnors..... It's o.k, but probably a load of bollocks loosly based on the truth.

If you want a good read - Fiction not fact on the same subject try away days - I belive the film is out May 22nd, but the book is ace. It's about a load of perry boys in the 80's who follow Tranmere. Really top read

And my niece plays a major thesping role in the film. So if you want your 'sambas' autographing, then send us a line....! :-)
