I read Guvnors a few years back - its worth a read.
A lot of the 'older' generation of City fans (or people in general) cannot understand the facination which the younger generation has with the hooligan firms. I went through a stage when I loved reading about it (not just the violence) - its something I wasn't old enough to see, so your always going to be interested in what you don't know when its surrounding City issues.
Just watched a 9 minute 'behind the scenes' clip on youtube of that Away Days film. Looks pretty good - the fashion and the music is something else I find interesting from the past. But I wouldn't go buying a load of funny coloured Adidas Stan Smiths because of the film - in the same way that most sensible people can enjoy the violence without becoming a violent person.
For the record Green Street is a load of shit, whereas Football Factory I find quite entertaining as there's some great lines in it. The best part of FF is the non violence related stuff.
Brilliantly well put liam.
I read the Guvnor's book a few years back and loved it because it gave me an insight into what it could be like following City before i was born.
I'm 23 and have never been involved in any trouble at football.
I always like having a pint with my dad and listening to his tales of away games in the 70's and 80's and how dangerous it used to be.
When i was old enough to start going out for a pint I occasionally spoke to a couple of the older lads that used to go to the games with my
dad and they told me more, said they were all into it, every week, home and away there was trouble at the match and that was very much part of the enjoyment.
I realise now that my dad never used to mention to me about all the trouble and violence that he was involved in. For one simple reason. He's embarrassed about it now.
He has grown up, has children and with that, responsiblities.
So in summary, reading these books and keenly listening to stories about my dad getting chased back to the station at Wolves in the 70's
doesn't mean i want to be involved in it.
It's just interesting stuff.
