Guvnors Book

I read Guvnors a few years back - its worth a read.

A lot of the 'older' generation of City fans (or people in general) cannot understand the facination which the younger generation has with the hooligan firms. I went through a stage when I loved reading about it (not just the violence) - its something I wasn't old enough to see, so your always going to be interested in what you don't know when its surrounding City issues.

Just watched a 9 minute 'behind the scenes' clip on youtube of that Away Days film. Looks pretty good - the fashion and the music is something else I find interesting from the past. But I wouldn't go buying a load of funny coloured Adidas Stan Smiths because of the film - in the same way that most sensible people can enjoy the violence without becoming a violent person.

For the record Green Street is a load of shit, whereas Football Factory I find quite entertaining as there's some great lines in it. The best part of FF is the non violence related stuff.

An excerpt from Young Guvnors (warning, writing style may make your eyes bleed). If only they'd spent less time rucking & more time listening in their English lessons.

How the fuck did that get published? Almost makes me embarrassed to be a Blue.

I assume this is Mickey Francis' book? Good read actually, best parts are about his life and the way he understands how he was drawn into the football violence of the times. I remember those days and there were some scary moments from a young fan's point of view watching it all on the outside so to speak. A lot of these kinds of books usually exagerate things but this story pretty much sums up those gangs who followed City around in the 70s & 80s. The thing people need to remember though is those gangs were also thought of as total knobheads at the time much like people would view the hoodie gangs of today. It only seems to be impressive with the benefit of hindsight to younger readers who weren't even around then. Those old gangs indirectly helped to produce the sanitised safety obsessed soulless stadiums we have today along with the armies of power mad stewards and security. Thats their ultimate legacy.

My post wasn't directly responding to the young guvnors excerpt above, it was regarding the original book.

Guvnors is a cracking read. Don't listen to the wankers on here who probably haven't even read it, it's funny as fuck

Don't need to read it to know what the running theme is. The same people who buy this book probably subscribe to Guns n Ammo and have a Pit Bull which they beat nearly as often as their girlfriends but not as often as their cocks.

what a fkin stupid thing to say. I have read this book. In fact I know his Brother. In fact I am the same age and know that most of what is said in that book is exactly as it happened. I know these lads. You wouldn't say shit like that to anyone face to face. Believe me.

That extract is from Rodney Rhoden's book. Someone told me a couple of weeks ago that it was being edited before being re-printed. Can't think why.

You could use it in English Language GCSE and get the students to correct the spelling and punctuation.
