Haaland the superstar

An interesting thread.

My cousin's kids are rags (by "dad") even though most of the family are blues, but my mum told me this weekend "but they really like Haaland".
This is payback for the 1990's. When my lads were growing up they were the only Blues in our road and at their school. Now the kids in my road play out in City shirts. I wonder who they all want to be when they play football in the school yard? (I can't find that out now for obvious reasons).

I was in Spain last summer and saw a kid with his mum, the kid had the latest City shirt with Haaland 9 on his back.

Assuming they were Blues on holiday I weny up to say hello. Soon became clear that they were Spanish locals.

This was before Haaland had even kicked a competitive ball for us, let alone scored 42 goals.

Arguably the PL's first worldwide superstar.

I thought must be mancs but when we had a chat they were from Finland

We've never had anyone like him. Aguero and co don't come anywhere near close to his profile. He's absolutely the next in line to follow Messi and Ronaldo as the footballer kids pretend to be. Kids will be City fans just because they want to be him. KDB a superstar too, but not to the same level as Haaland, but way more than Aguero/Yaya etc.

Not sure KDB is way more of a superstar than Aguero. Definitely arguments for KDB but I think he’s in the same bracket as Silva and Aguero and you could argue it any way between the 3 of them depending on what you like in a player.

KDB is obviously world class, but his superstar status is also helped by the fact he’s been the stand out attacking central midfielder in world football for the past few years on his own, with few if any others truly world class over the past few years in his position. In a different era there would be others in & around his level. Aguero on the other hand played in an era where there were probably 10-15+ world class number 9s and Messi + Ronaldo at their peak. I also think his numbers would have been a lot higher had he played for a Guardiola side in his early - mid 20s when he was at his pomp.

Haaland & Mbappe currently benefiting from playing in an era when there are a lot less top strikers & goalscorers than the decade before, so the gap between them 2 & the rest is huge right now. But I agree that Haaland is different level to any player we’ve had before in terms of profile in world football and if he stays fit he’s going to smash all sorts of records in England in terms of scoring goals over the next couple of years.

Whether you love it or hate it, Instagram followers are a good indicator of a players global stardom.
Aguero 29.8m
Haaland 25.8m (only 22)
De bruyne 20.9m
