Haaland the superstar

He use to nip in to the pub before the game for a few pints allegedly.
My old mate from donkeys years ago; Old Joe Ormston RIP told me " you could find Bobby Johnstone in Top Yates's Friday nights he'd heading balloons at 1am in the morning, he'd play on the Saturday and be man of the match"

My old fella use to rave about how good he was.

Christ the top Yates that takes me back. (All ins)
Aussie white wine warm water and lemon juice five of those were a good start to the night. Cellar Vie after with a bottle or 2 of Hungarian bulls blood.

Happy days.

Happy days indeed mate, had some top days and nights on our way home from Maine Road, Yates's top middle bottom lol. I'm surprised I am still married.

Haaland 100% is a superstar. Taking away a City bias there are a handful of players you're excited to watch live when they turn up in your stadium - Henry and Messi are the two that immediately spring to my mind although I remember being weirdly excited when Crespo turned up with Chelsea. Haaland has that same aura for me. It's not just footballing ability, otherwise David Silva would be worshipped as a God by everyone, but an audacity and personality thing.

A Haaland tap in at the back post hits different even when the goal is meaningless simply because it's Haaland bagging it. His physical size and sprint speed means he grabs your attention wherever he is on the pitch and unlike any of the other recent City superstars he really wants to engage the crowd

I'd be interested to hear other people's opposition players they've been excited to watch at Maine Road/Etihad.

Henry was one for me too. Messi as well. Ronaldinho in 03.

An unusual one for me would be Iniesta for Barca. Pure poetry in motion.

Ruud Gullit for me. Came to Maine Road in December 1995 with Chelsea. There were reports in the week before the game that he might miss out through injury. I knew that would increase our chances of winning the match, but was desperate for him to play as I wanted to see him live.

He was declared fit. And he ran the game, scoring the only goal if I recall correctly. The defeat was a disappointment, but it was nonetheless a chance to see an absolute master at work.
