Halloween........

We'll we've been to Dinan today and I've seen something that quite literally took me by surprise!. Two young girls (no more than 9 years old), came in to a shop we were in and trick or treated the shop owner!, and she gave them some sweets. The French seem to trick or teat in daylight with their parents. Tonight we have had the door bell rung twice, but the thing is the door bell is outside the front gate!, very polite children here in France are and it's quite an eye opener, when you're used to shit head kids knocking fuck out of your door!. Vive la France.

Yet another consumer festival of plastic shit and begging kids. Actually surprised there aren't Halloween greetings cards yet.

Fortunately spotted some in our street so lights of and upstairs to make a phone call. Getting away with it for another year!

A fun night for the kids or another commercial exploitation opportunity from Uncle Sam ?

Frankly, I'm sick of jumping up and down all night opening the door to folk I don't even know.

I accept I may be a miserable bastard but is there any accepted sign/ etiquette that will discourage folks from knocking on ?

Am I on my own in this ?

I was driving around Burnage and Didsbury before .... there's a fair few people out tonite in halloween gear , with their kids ... and then there are those off to halloween parties ...... i've just seen a 'devil' with a tail walk into wetherspoons Didsbury .

And yet i haven't had one single knock on the door so far ...

Just got in from the pub. Pointless coming home earlier as couldn't relax with the little beggars at the door. It wouldn't be too bad if it just was the kids from my street but last year had about 25 knocks at the door and it gets tired quickly, especially if you just got in from work. Worse is teenagers who are too old for it and make no effort in dressing up, just pure begging.
Should give them fruit, they won't return in future.
Bought a tub of sweets just in case so probably start munching them soon when downing a beer or 2

We had about eight knocks on our tonight in london and they all been polite and friendly. Though one looked a bit old to be doing it. Now found i bought to many sweets and i might eat whats left which is not good at all.

My daughter and her friends absolutely loved it.
Good on you, all those who gave sweets.

I think everyone should give sweets, At the end of the day we all been their as kids doing it with our mates. Its a great way of a community to gather together and have a bit of fun for the kids.

Only issue must be trying to get kids to sleep afterwards with all that sugar in them.

Well, we had lots of knocks but no kids over about 9, no kids not accompanied by grown ups and every one was dressed in proper Halloween costume.

What's more, two thirds of them took only one or two sweets (and we had good sweets) and all said 'please', 'thank you' and 'Happy Halloween'.

It's been the same here since we moved in and I'm happy to join in every year.

Absolutely pissing down here. W've only had one little lad, dressed up as a pumpkin just before the wife got home, I gave him half the stuff we had bought for the night.
