Hansen, Lawrensen and Shearer bring shame on the BBC

To be fair to the BBC, if there is only one thing they can do it is procedure. Every complaint is noted and when they pass a certain limit, I am sure they will be actioned by a committee, if not many committees. You won't see an apology, but what you will see is a change in behaviour. Eventually, with a bit of luck, these morons will be put out to pasture at the end of their contracts.

So, keep up the good work.

I lodged my complaint with the bbc and bog standard reply was received, maybe we should go to the national press or start a petition, complaining to bbc does not work and is brushed under the carpet, once it gets out into the public domain then people will sit up and take notice

Can't quite believe I have become 'disgusted of Tunbridge Wells' but here was my contribution to the BBC Complaints Dept... I didn't have any green ink.

Full Complaint: I am moved to write this after the culmination of twelve month's or more increasingly virulent and, to be frank, sinister comment on Mario Balotelli by various BBC commentators/summarisers. His every move, his every glance, his every mistake is the subject of, at best, sarcastic gibes and, at worst, attitudes which border on sheer hatred. Messrs Hansen and Lawrenson seem especially harsh on Mr Balotelli and last night's comments by Hansen were disgraceful. Yes, Balotteli has been a less than model citizen on and off the pitch over the past couple of years but then so have many other very young Premiership footballers. However, many of them are British and/or white...and somehow they don't seem to come in for the same amount of criticism. Hansen in particular (note some of his pronouncements during the Suarez affair) could not hide his utter disgust and contempt for a player that excelled throughout Euro 2012. This was at best 'unprofessional'. I really don't recall him being quite so harsh about, say, Paul Gascoigne, Lee Bowyer, John Terry et al The commentator (Guy Mowbray?), and Mark Lawrenson were not a great deal better - all Balotteli had to do was lift a quizzical eyebrow and this unamusing double-act would make some barbed comment. Was he really the only player out there who questioned the referee's decision, for instance. On a wider point, Hansen and Lawrenson appear way out of touch, have an in-built pro-Anfield bias and, in short, are not very good.

What annoyed me is their constant reference throughout the tournament that Balotelli is a suspension waiting to happen;-

Minutes Balotelli missed through suspension = 0
Minutes Rooney missed through suspension = 180

Yet Mario gets a lot rougher ride.

Not a great argument, considering Balotelli missed eight games for us through suspension last season and was, arguably, lucky not to have received a longer ban.

Edit: Actually 11 if you include the three game European ban he had for the red card against Kiev the season before.

And have you seen the yellows he got, starting with the 2 a Liverpool.

Even the commentary on that Rooney incident is telling of the biased attitude of most commentators. ''He knew what he'd done and he's regretted it'', already making excuses for him. Imagine the immediate vitriol if that had been someone else...

When the BBC have sent you the machine generated response you might want to email Head of Sport Ms Slater and if she backs Lawrenson & Co. contact the BBC trust. Things will only change if BBC Sport is embarrassed or cornered.

Someone mentioned Garth Crooks and his "support" for the anti Balo stuff. Mr Crooks pays his mortgage by fitting in with people he works with but then he's hardly a Malcolm X type is he. Incidentally, Ian Wright left the Match of the Day sofa a while back. I wonder if he heard something unsavoury when the cameras were turned off?

My complaint
Full Complaint: During the last football season I had occasion to complain on numerous occasions about the pundits on MoTD in respect to their bias against Manchester City and in particular Mario Balotelli During the coverage of the England V Italy game on Sunday this bias against Mario Balotelli once agin manifested itself It is clear that Hansen dislikes Mario so much that I would describe it has hate this is clear from his body language Shearer also joined in with inaccurate comments These "gentlemen" are highly paid to offer their expertise and opinion and as such the bear minimum of research would prevent comments such as Shearer's questions Mario's achievements in football Mario has won far more than Shearer even did and he is only 21. In past replies you have acknowledged that the pundits are expect to offer their forthright opinion and I agree that should be the case every player MUST be treated equally and the personal bias against a player should not influence their views that are broadcast during the programme Taking Rooney and Balotelli as a comparison very rarely are the negative aspects of Rooney offered it is mainly positive whereas with Mario it is clearly the opposite The presenter Lineker tried to bring the pundits back in line saying referred to “juvenile back references”, before adding “so leave it out, yeah”.

Thanks for contacting the BBC.

I understand you had concerns with regards to comments made about Mario Balotelli during the England V Italy game and I note your comments that all players should be treated equally, without any displays of personal bias. I also note this is an issue which you have contacted us on previously.

Mario Balotelli has been a controversial figure throughout his career in both Italy and England. In common with various media and press in both countries, our pundits have acknowledged both his youth and undoubted footballing talent, but have had to comment from time to time on various disciplinary issues both on and off the pitch, and his repeated raw displays of dissent and frustration. Jose Mourinho described him as "unmanageable" and both his current club and international managers - Mancini and Prandelli - have expressed concerns that his talent could go to waste unless he changes his ways.

Our team's comments, while sometimes reflecting those concerns, have across the programme been balanced and fair.

I can assure you we appreciate your feedback and your comments have been fully registered on our audience log. This log is made available to all members of the BBC including the BBC Sport team and senior BBC management.

This ensures your comments and others we receive are considered across the BBC.

Thanks again for taking the time to contact us.

My reply

I am totally unhappy about your reply to my previous complaints as it off under the banner of its comments about an controversial character and that his past managers have commented about the difficulty of managing him So if this is the case does this give pundits the right to call him stupid and say that if he had petrol for brains then he wouldn't get out of the garage? I think not, they are using their stage to bully him without right of reply and this is totally unacceptable. In my view they continued it before the final with Hansen's ridiculous 10 hatricks comment and Shearer who claimed he was referring to international football. You claim that their comments are balanced and fair, if this was the case then Rooney would receive equal comments, but being English, and dare I say it? white this is not the case.

I really think that the BBC has a made a massive error in calling Balotelli's treatment "fair and balanced". Any third party such as "Kick It Out" that viewed the coverage of Italy's matches would find nothing balanced and fair about it. Trust me, the BBC will have to concede that Balotelli was victimised.

If they replaced Hansen, Lawrenson and Shearer with the calibre of Vialli and Klinsmann (I thought they were very good) it would go a long way to make the programme a lot more interesting.

+1

Time for some new blood on MOTD certainly. Hansen is increasingly coming across as a bitter and twisted old fool who knows fuck all. Lawrenson's only redemption (actually it isn't) is that he is infinitely better in the studio than as a commentator. But that's like saying dog shit is better than cat shit.

The pair of them are well overdue for the axe. Shearer is just as bad, although not actually evil like Hansen.
