Happy 5-1 day

I was in the North Stand. The thing I remember most was the noise when the second goal went in; thought my ear drums had burst, it was ear-bleedingly loud. I knew we were in for a good afternoon after that.
Was on the Kippax and. distinctly remember how loud the roar was for the 2nd goal
In fact I,ll never forget that moment.

Incidentally I was also at Brentford earlier in the week to see us lose in the league cup 1st leg
No one who was there that might could have for seen the 23rd spt 1989!

I was in Platt lane for the last ever MR derby and couldn't believe the Neville error, can still see the look of delight and anticipation on Goaters face as he strode away from the by line and, moved inside a touch before smashing the ball into the net.The place erupted and I didn't stop laughing for a week.
Yes, considering how cocky, almost arrogant Neville is now, that day made him look ok like an embarrassed schoolboy.
I was also in the Platt Lane, so near the Goater incident.
The "Gary Neville is a Blue" chant should be serenaded to him whenever he is seen in public.
A great day, that will never be forgotten...

I recall the whole day like it was yeaterday

15 years old, my dad used to drink in the well known spit n saw dust pub, The Junction in Cheadle Hulme. Big blue pub.

We started the day there. Dad, Uncle and Me.
I used to love that pub as a kid before its gentrification , id sit in the first room on the left where the pool table was , with my coke n crisps, staring open mouthed at the ‘characters’ that adorned the place.
From there we went early to The Claremont. No idea why, it wasnt a pub Dad usually went in, but thats where we were.

At some point the United team coach went past and the pub half emptied as punters grabbed ashtrays, pint pots, whatever to sling at the passing piss bus.

On to the game, i never saw the result coning, we were both struggling in the table but id never seen us beat the scum, and it was some years before i saw it again!

Tricky Trev putting us in front, the invading scum in the North stand battered and sent on their way , bruised.
As they were escorted past us in The Main Stand to the Platt Lane corner, the whole stand seamed to rise to sing , “Youre the shit of Manchester”. Id never seen the Main Stand go feral!

From then .. delirium. Twitchy arsehole when Lesley scored the Volley to make it 3-1, pure delight as Oldfield and Hinchclife (hes the full back you know) put it out of reach!

Stood on my chair chanting , “Easeh, Easeh, Easeh”.

Got home later, met my pal and we both went off to frank clarkes newsagents on Worcester road to buy a pink, seeing a red bastard pal and both calling , “ 1 2, 1 2 3, 1234, 5-1!” And whacking him round the head with our rolled up pinks

Pure joy

Brentford were 3rd division I think.
Was that the game that had a lot of fog and was in danger of or called off?
My memory plays tricks.

My first ever Manchester Derby!
What a Day it was.i think the word is.. Volatile.
The Kippax was the place to be.i was on it.

Back in the day when fans used to celebrate goals properly and go mental...
My first derby too, stood on the Kippax and remember the bus journey back into town afterwards.
Driver was a blue and set the number on his bus as 5-1.
Saw loads of Rags who had left early walking back into town and they got it with both barrels from a bus load of happy blues.

Any blues on here remember playing utd in the pre season before this derby,
It was at old Trafford,
Remember my old man taking me but he doesn't remember.
Think it was a testimonial???

Seem to remember that one of the newspapers (Sun or Star) featured a colour centre page spread of Hughes acrobatic goal!
Doing their best to brush the 5-1 loss under the carpet
