Happy St Patrick's Day

There a few different theories on this. Most historians accept he was born from English -Roman parents and they lived in or near what is Chester now which I think in the 6th century was part of Wales.

His family seemed to have definitely travelled around North Wales and maybe even lived in the Snowdonia area but nobody can be 100% sure
I think you are probably right. Don’t know how you can define the borders within Britain at the time.

My grandparents are Moss Side Irish originally from Dublin. They were quite happy to leave the old land behind and the whole ‘Irishness’ thing has never been a feature in my family and it’s certainly not a thing I’ve ever played up to. That said, Cleveland has a large St Patrick’s Day Parade and I’ll be heading down to join in shortly because it literally passes my building. Town for the rest of the day will be a complete mess with drunken suburbanites, it really is Amateur Hour, but it’s a good excuse for a little day drink, which is something I don’t do much nowadays.

I'll celebrate Saint Paddy's Day as soon as the Irish start celebrating Saint George's Day. ; )
A. Did anyone ask you to?
B. How many "ordinary" English folk celebrate April 23rd? I spent my first 20 years in Manchester, and I don't ever remember any big celebrations marking the day. Which is a shame. It should be marked in some way.

That’s you told KP.
By the way @jimharri is this you.

Not a question of "telling" anyone anything eamo. What I said is true. To be honest, I find it a bit cringey-ish to see people with absolutely no bit of Irish heritage in them at all (barring cheering a Niall Quinninho goal) donning Green clobber and sticking on The Pogues on their mp3 player.

I feel the same about the Irish doing it.
Wear a Green jumper or shirt if you like, for the day, but dressing like a leprechaun or some diddley-aye Hollywood version of Oirish, is just cringeworthy.
Foreigners doing it isn’t half as bad in my view. You can just laugh at them.
