Back in my childhood it was considered a holy day of obligation. Meaning your Ma sent you to mass.None taken. Why would you "celebrate" the patron saint of a foreign country. That was really my point A, just clumsily phrased. I don't celebrate him,and I live over here!
Now with us all turning heathen over here, it’s hardly celebrated as Saintly or anything remotely holy.
It’s primarily a Bord Failte advertising campaign. Gone from a day to a 5 day festival.
