Harry Kane

Fucked up the Olympic stadium deal? Please explain.

By the way, Spurs don’t lose many players at all. And those that do leave only leave for clubs

Umm……..not sure you read my post properly. Where did I claim that Spurs currently are rivalling City? You’re imagining it.

The discussion is about the supposed substance of this gentleman’s agreement. And the claim is that Levy agreed to allow Kane to leave should Spurs not look like competing got honours. I have no problem in conceding that that is now the case.

But that is only one side of the agreement. The other is that another club must pay the asking price. And until that happens, Levy is not honour bound to allow Kane to leave. To which end, contrary to the narrative on here, the only person who appears to be breaking the agreement is Kane.
So Levy can say he’s honouring the agreement and the ask for £500m? Bollocks

It's no wonder Spurs rarely buy any quality players. They are a stepping stone club that make it a nightmare to leave if you succeed with them but want to further your career and win a trophy.

Bale, Modric, Berbatov and now Kane have all been through the same thing.

Levy is essentially putting an unreasonable price on Harry Kane that would either make the buying club go away or if their stupid enough to actually buy him at an inflated price. A potent combination of vindictiveness and greed.
Given that Kane is one of the top two or three strikers in the world; given the premium always paid for elite goal scorers; given that he has a phenomenal goal scoring record at international as well as club level; given that he is England captain; given that he was PL top goal scorer and assister last season (in a poor team); given that the source of his success is technical quality and mentality rather than physical prowess and that there is therefore no reason to expect that he will rapidly decline; and given that he still has 3 years remaining on his contract; it would be just as easy to argue that any offer less than £150m is unreasonable.

Your point is a tad self defeating, mate, given the success that those players went on to enjoy! ;-)

Not really. There is always some tedious song and dance when Spurs are involved. All of those players had to force a sale through.

If I have a choice between Spurs and say Everton/Arsenal/West Ham then I would pick the others because I know they won't fuck me about.

Yes, I know!

But at the time that Kane signed his six year contract, Spurs very much were regularly in the mix for major silverware.

It’s very easy to assume that money is all that matters when signing a contract. However, players will also want assurances of club progression when committing their future to a club.

There is zero chance that Kane would have signed a 6 year deal at Spurs if he could have foreseen the trajectory of the club since Pochettino left.

From Kane’s point of view he has kept his side of the bargain. He is consistently among the top goal scorers every season, which is what he is paid to do. Spurs have plummeted down the league due to piss poor signings, planning and management.

If you combine the piss poor management and talk of a gentlemen’s agreement not being adhered to, it’s no wonder Kane feels pissed off with the club.

I think City should throw a £120 million take it or leave it bid. Let’s see Levy justify turning down a bid that would make Kane the third highest transfer fee of all time. There’s a fine line between placing a value on a player and pricing someone out of a move, especially when a gentlemen’s agreement potentially exists.

at least he wont be fit by the time the season kicks off, jsut need to focus on Son to defend
Interesting that, will he play against us or for us in the first match if the deal goes through.

I think the Guy on here who suggested the deal could be done after we play them but obvs before the window shuts could be right.

But Kane has stated or hinted that the asking price is £100m! My suspicion is Levy saw his arse Kane let that out meaning City have bid that, and is now moving the goalposts out of spite. Either way he’s negated on a gentleman’s agreement, granted he can it’s not binding, but it’s a cunts trick.
In that interview with Gary Neville, Kane suggested that the asking price might, by way of example, be £100m. That was just him optimistically trying to set the agenda. If Levy had actually said that the agreed asking price was £100m, then Harry would have had no qualms about saying exactly that. But there’s no way that a savvy negotiator like Levy would ever put a figure on it.
