Top of the line model, sunroof, overdrive, ashtrays. List price, 12k.

Old city would pay 20k just to brag to the lads down the pub.

I think you're right, but it might go further than just having the two influential England players to curry favour - there's been a fair amount of talk about imposing new restrictions on the amount of non-domestic players fielded in both the league and CL.

What matters to fans at this time of year is social media. What matters throughout the season is performance and spirit. And the long game for the club is to have our players and managers biting medals at the end of every season. That's what serves us best.

We played sensationally last year but lacked a penalty box playmaker, a goalscorer, and post-Aguero, a centre-forward who Raheem would flourish alongside.

The pair we have signed clearly have the right quality and character. One on a steep upward curve, arrogant and able to carry it off - fearless, incisive, always leading opponents into rash decisions. The other, a dedicated and immensely stable professional who has improved throughout his career, but remains starved of medals.

In sporting terms, I'm pretty much sold on this summer. Yes, PSG got the value - on paper, at least. And of course, they got the mega star. But they've already done that bit before.

It's like watching two fellas build a collection for their garage. There's class - two Range Rovers, a trick Merc Saloon for long range low-key work, Ferrari 488, Porsche GT3RS, Golf Rs for daily driving, a Porsche 356 for magic sunny afternoons. And then there's the youtuber, RS3 that can't be driven safely the wet, RS4s and AMG Blacks - awesome cars, but more about that impressive noise and power than handling or usability. A Skyline 1900bhp, 7 secs 1/4 mile or whatever, but can't pull from the lights without 6k revs and so on, and a bunch of Bentley/Porsche SUVs, incredible quality, all ugly as sin and impractical. All of those would be the popular choices - but not because of the usability, reliability, the lasting joy they bring, or appreciating value. Sorry, unless you can really fucking drive, you can't do much in the real world with that lot. And it's generally true, people who really can drive, don't buy them. That Mclaren Mbappe tho, that has an awful lot going for it, and will appreciate for sure. Are you really selling it now?

So who cares if he got the one off Carbon Fibre Lamborghini for a song - while we spent big on a mint BMW e30 M3 evo ii, and a Singer Porsche? They are what the garage required to beat the rest day today, turn heads at track days, have the maximum amount of fun, and build the character of the collection.
I know fuck all about cars, but I’ll take your word for it ;-)

I agree there could be some post-Brexit restrictions on non-English / UK players which has no doubt influenced the decision making.

I just think with £250m on two players, you could be looking at two talents who are going to be the decisive players of their generation for the next 10 years.

Mbappe, Haaland spring to mind. Not sure I’d put Grealish in their category. And Kane is 6 or 7 years older than both.

This looks like a pivotal summer to me. But not pivotal in that we’re buying quality we’ve never had before. But pivotal in that we’ve never overspent this much before.

£250m on 2 players is quite an overspend on any players.
Let’s hope it works out.

Kante does it for Chelsea, and possibly Bissouma or Ndidi could do something approaching what Dinho has given us over the years. While they may not have his technical ability,in terms of mobility and recovery they are both big upgrades on Rodri - the attributes that let him and us down.

They all need a ballplayer next to them though, Kanté can't do what Rodri does and vice versa. Fernandinho could do both roles at once but he's almost unique in that regard

I’d personally rather spend £250 million on two players who will spend their peak years at City. If that means five quality seasons then so be it.

I think we’ve been spoilt rotten as a fan base in that we’ve managed to keep hold of our top foreign talents in Vinny, Silva and Kun for so long. We are seeing the normality of foreign players right now in Bernardo, Laporte and Jesus who tend to do 4/5 year stints before moving on.

Exclude Messi from the list and all of the generational talents of recent times have had 2 or 3 major moves throughout their careers. Ronaldo, Hazard, Neymar, Ibrahimovic and Suarez etc even moved from top tier clubs to other top tier clubs.

I don’t see Mbappe or Haaland staying at any club for 10 years.

For me, if Harry Kane comes in and scores 100 PL goals over 5 seasons it will be money we’ll spent.

What can't Kante do that rodri does just out of interest?

He doesn't play that role at all, he's a box-to-box ball winner rather than a deep-lying playmaker. Doesn't pass the ball anywhere near well enough to dictate play from deep, that's why he had Drinkwater doing that role at Leicester and now Jorginho at Chelsea

Also in City's lineup, our deepest midfielder wins a lot of important headers in front of the defence. Rodri is very good at this, as is Fernandinho. Kanté, not so much
