Harry Kane

What a shock....

Not really.

Can still see us most likely to sign Kane either in the winter window, or next summer (for less I'd gather).

Other most likely options:

1) Haaland (most difficult / least likely, but not impossible)

2) Lewandowski (I think we'd be his #1 choice as already said wants PL and has played with Pep, although Liverpool/Klopp also as likely with United 3rd).

I love Pep, but did he back us into a corner with what we heard about "Kane or bust?" Not that we'd have signed Lukaku or Ings, but that was out in the public sphere.

Not sure what else we could have done TBH. We were stuck as truth is there were no other viable options right now.

Also not so sure about the criticisms of Levy as sure fire bets either I read and responded to from Joe Butterfield.

He kept his star player. No Kane and team is far less marketable and interesting even if particularly unlikely to win silverware.

Not really. Levy never once entered negotiations, the stance was always he's not for sale but kane was probably the one egging us on and giving us the encouragement.

I've said all along none of it sounded right. Everyone refused to acknowledge what was being put out by journalists via spurs.

I'm actually relieved he's not coming but it's all on him because he was the driving factor in all this and city acted in good faith
So what was Kane’s game then?

Difficult without knowing the facts on what exactly has happened with this. Have we pulled out, has Levy remained stubborn, has Kane himself had second thoughts? Who knows?

I wouldn't be suprised to see him signing for the Rags next summer.

I just feel this talk of a rapid decline is over egged. He isn't a player that relies on pace, and whilst he isn't blessed with the natural physique of say a Ibra or Ronaldo, he is ultra professional, doesn't drink, relies on movement and finishing etc etc He could easily keep banging them in well into his thirties. He's just turned 28 so he could easily have another 5 or 6 years at a very high level.

He will probably leave next summer anyway unless we somehow get top 4 this year which is a long shot. Thing is, Haaland is going to be a 200 million deal for anyone to do next summer when you factor in wages and agent fees, Kane will still appeal as an alternative option. I doubt in the next 12 months another elite striker appears from nowhere so there is a limited pool.

On strengthening the squad, replacing a 30 goal 15 assist a season player is practically impossible. These players just don't exist, whoever we sign would be taking a massive punt on and 120 million really doesn't go far.
Maybe this season you can justify that Kane > 3 big signings but you can't maintain that over any longer period of time. The kane return will fall away rapidly. There are more Owens, Fowlers, Rooneys etc who are finished at 30 than vardys and Ronaldos who go on well into their 30s.

If Spurs make it into the top 4 this season then it will be a good move. Fail and its a blunder from which you probably will not recover.

Don’t forget to get onto your United and especially Liverpool supporting friends who were crying about a month ago at City spending 250m on two players and ruining the league

40m net spend this summer, dry those fucking eyes you bunch of drips

So what was Kane’s game then?

Hire your brother as an agent when you don't think this football thing is actually gonna work out for you, then feel too awkward to replace him with someone qualified when it becomes clear you've accidentally become one of the biggest stars in the sport and need an experienced representative.

Basically, the Kane deal fell through because Harry couldn't bear the thought of having to sit opposite Charlie in stony silence every Christmas.
