Harry Kane

Where have all the "we won't leave him hanging" posts gone? All I see is Kane and Levy taking flak. All transfers involve the buyer discretely finding out if the player will move, once they have his indication they go and find out if the club will sell. This is established practice, Kane did his bit, twice, City let him down. A club the size of City should have known what spurs would take before getting the player to start letting off grenades. They acted either amateurish or naive, if Spurs price was too much the player should have been informed in May. We where told it was "close" less than 2 weeks ago when in reality it was never close. Kane nor his agent have ever been involved I a transfer, the onus was on City to to indicate how well or otherwise things where developing. They either completely misunderstood the situation or just plain had no clue.

I've seen numerous times that players won't sign for Spurs because Levy won't let them go, I'd argue City have come out of this worse. Would the agent of Declan Rice or Kalvin Phillips have their player behave the way Kane did in the knowledge City might just abandon them? You never hear of Liverpool, Chelsea or Utd behaving in such a way, they seem to know if a player is actually attainable before getting involved. City done this Koulibaly last year too. Its poor behaviour.
Difficult to see whether you are serious here or just seriously impaired.

Poor behaviour… are we in some sort of good manners contest. The positives I read today is that Levy is furious. Good because he’s a complete arse. 20 years in charge of a club and he’s deliverd one lge cup. He‘s also furious apparently because his obstinacy means he will have to give Sir Arry a significant pay rise.

Both he and Kane can enjoy their love-in tonight when Spuds take on the mighty Pacos de Ferreira.

Can't blame Kane really. Tempting him with a five year contract but Pep announces he is only staying for two. Probably happy to stay.

Yes?

We let it drag on for weeks when Spurs apparently weren't entertaining it, and at the same time only a week ago we had rumours on here from City sources that it was more or less wrapped up, when it was clearly far from it.
If Spurs weren't 'entertaining it' then why did they 'apparently' state a fee that would make them happy? Why did City 'apparently go back with a different offer if Spurs said we're not selling?

You seem happy to cast City in a bad light.

Good luck in the Europa conference whatever the fuck it is lol.
Fancy cheering a player on who doesn't really want to be there.
Smile nicely harry, it's Thursday night.

Joke of a club who think because they have a big name they think they are a big club.
Can't stop laughing.

Yawn. Here we go.

The Athletic saying there weren't negotiations between the clubs since late July is something to take note of, especially given the rumours on the City side were that it was more or less wrapped up. That appears overconfidence because clearly it wasn't close, at all.

The truth hurt or what? I'm not that arsed really because I wasn't 100% sold on Kane, but the post-mortem is important. We've missed out on big moves before, need to learn from them.

I don't see the problem with the Kane deal collapsing. We made an offer and it wasn't enough. The issue is if we didn't have an alternative in mind..
It's bizarre. Nearly everyone has stated that Levy was within his rights to name his price and not budge. Well the converse of that is that we were within our rights not to pay his price.

The next few weeks are going to be interesting. Harry Kane wanted to leave and for one reason only, to win things. You can't really blame him for that, not many England captains win nothing in their careers, Gerry Francis being the last, but he was only a short term captain, you have to go back to the early 1960s and Johnny Haynes to find the next one.

When he sits down and contemplates this summer he'll realise that is now a distinct possibility, unless Nuno can somehow transform this squad, and there's only one man to blame for potentially ruining his career.

He's got a big decision coming up. I think he'd be best to run his contract down as Levy now has £150M in his head as a buyout clause, but these silly prices won't persist, and he looked distinctly average in the Euros. He'll be 30 when he can start talking to other clubs in Jan 2024 so doesn't want to push that date further back. If he's still as proficient he can take a large signing on fee then rather than tie himself into Spurs now on a larger salary.
