Harry Kane

I wonder if Tottenham have put two differing prices on Kane's head? An agreeable one for whenever Tottenham would be ready to sell (ie when they've made their signings and later than 15/08). And a go fuck yourself fee for if City want to make it happen now.

Not really. There is always some tedious song and dance when Spurs are involved. All of those players had to force a sale through.

If I have a choice between Spurs and say Everton/Arsenal/West Ham then I would pick the others because I know they won't fuck me about.
Players will make their choices on the basis of pay; the manager; potential for success; style of play; location of club; and many other reasons besides.

The possibility that, 3-4 years down the line, your new club might drive a hard bargain with your next club won’t figure prominently among them.

In that interview with Gary Neville, Kane suggested that the asking price might, by way of example, be £100m. That was just him optimistically trying to set the agenda. If Levy had actually said that the agreed asking price was £100m, then Harry would have had no qualms about saying exactly that. But there’s no way that a savvy negotiator like Levy would ever put a figure on it.
Know him personally do you? Or are you just a fan surmising like everyone else? The £100m figure wasn’t plucked out of thin air so take your blinkers off and accept your beloved Levy is fucking over one of your own. I couldn’t careless if he signs for city, I’m one of the 43.1% who don’t want him, but it’s clear to see he’s pissed off and feels betrayed.

It’s very easy to assume that money is all that matters when signing a contract. However, players will also want assurances of club progression when committing their future to a club.

There is zero chance that Kane would have signed a 6 year deal at Spurs if he could have foreseen the trajectory of the club since Pochettino left.

From Kane’s point of view he has kept his side of the bargain. He is consistently among the top goal scorers every season, which is what he is paid to do. Spurs have plummeted down the league due to piss poor signings, planning and management.

If you combine the piss poor management and talk of a gentlemen’s agreement not being adhered to, it’s no wonder Kane feels pissed off with the club.

I think City should throw a £120 million take it or leave it bid. Let’s see Levy justify turning down a bid that would make Kane the third highest transfer fee of all time. There’s a fine line between placing a value on a player and pricing someone out of a move, especially when a gentlemen’s agreement potentially exists.
That’s the gamble you take when you sign a lucrative, long term contract. You get the pay rise that you wanted but, in return, you commit to stay at the club.

But the club also have a duty to fulfil the ambition of the player, which would have been promised during the contract talks.

Levy has every right to refuse to sell Kane at any cost. But you have to consider the knock on effect of this. Why would any top player commit to a side who lacks ambition and will price them out of any future potential move?

I watched the interview. It was as clear as day that the £100m figure was just Kane putting down a marker.

"I mean, he might want to sell me! 'He might be thinking, 'If I could get £100 million for you, then why not?' Do you know what I mean? I'm not going to be worth that for the next two or three years."

It's Harry chancing his arm; trying to set the agenda. Not even the slightest suggestion that it was an actual figure agreed between them.

The only duty that any party to a contract has is to fulfil their side of it. If Spurs had made the promises that you claim they will have made, then they would now be in breach of contract if they refused to sell. So there would be no need for any talk about a gentleman's agreement.

gentleman agreement, Kane isnt a very bright person but very naive if he believed Levy will stick to any promise that is not binding in the contract, hard to blame Levy on when potentially extra 30/50m can be made just by stretching this deal out until end of window
