Very few, if any, Premier League clubs register the full allocation of 25 players.
True. But how many of them genuinely fight on 4 fronts.

Happy to proved wrong on this but the fact we haven’t seen a lot of him at the age of 22 one reason why I don’t think he will make it here. I don’t think you are a prospect after 20/21.
If you aren’t playing at 22/23 then you should be looking at elsewhere. And from what I have seen I can’t see him breaking in this year. I dare say Garcia is ahead of him in the pecking order.

Interesting read- anyone moaning that we are after Maguire should take note. We need English players otherwise our squad size will be restricted.

How the squad shapes up with 23. Red for overseas/foreign players, Green for association Home grown and blue for club trained/u21.
At least 2 players for every position, 3 at LB and Keeper.
It really doesn't matter if the 3rd CB is foreigner #17 or the 4th HG player. I suppose it might matter to Phillip Sandler actually...but the point is we don't need the other CB to be HG - if we get Maguire it's not because of his nationality.
I recall Pep used 3-5-2 quite a bit before Mendy's injury. He may have plans to revisit that set up with Cancelo and Angelino reportedly on their way. If we set up like below we might not even need another CB and we'd be very very solid:Ederson 1

Yep, plus Garcia and it's definitely enough. We don't need a 25 man squad, and actually I don't think Pep wants one. He prefers a higher quality smaller squad.
17 foreigners, Stones, Sterling, Walker Angelino & Foden is 22, more than enough.

Garcia is 18, made 3 league cup appearances, he is not listed in the main squad at the moment I don't think he will be our fourth centre back and I suspect we will have four, though I guess it's possible that Dinho will be seen as one.Ederson 1

Any more than that and you start to get disgruntled players. Fernandinho could surely fill in as fourth choice CB when necessary.
I did not say we have made concrete offers for central defenders (or anyone else for that matter).City may well have interest in all manner of players, but there's zero evidence that we have made any concrete offers for any central defenders in this window and that includes harry maguire.
It's obvious that LCFC aren't looking to sell him and that it would take a record fee to get him, and therefore if we had identified him as a player we wanted to buy, I think we would be well down that familiar road that we took with mahrez and most other Summer transfer sagas. In my opinion there's nothing happening with maguire regardless of what the Star or Mirror say. If you think their smoke suggests fire, then you're welcome to believe it.
I did not say we have made concrete offers for central defenders (or anyone else for that matter).
I suspect we have made enquiries about many people including central defenders and probably including Maguire as it has been talked about by journalists other than those you mention.
Whether or not they are likely to come to fruition I don't claim to have the faintest idea.
Agree completely.Im fairly confident City will be working to bring in a CB.
Even with komps in the back 4 and for all the brilliance of City, we struggled when trying to see out tight matches against high balls Liverpool and Spurs at home several n the league being 2 examples.
The Champs league when Llorente came on and his eventual dodgy winner is another classic example.
City aren't half as good seeing out a game without the ball at han when they have it.
Therefore I'm quietly confident that if not Maguire it will be someone with his physical attributes and skill set that as well as firming up the back will be able to contribute in the build up.
Fair enough. This assumes Sandler is inferior though. For what we do, I don't think he is. But I'll concede Maguire has tools that are undeniable on Cornerkicks. And that addition might be superior to any ball skill Sandler posseses.I'll chime in and play a little bit of devils advocate here. I've never been a fan of paying big money for CB's (and we love doing that which drives me 'nuts'). I rated Nico and argued against signing Stones. I like Stones, but unlike Laporte he isn't a lock starter for the future. This would be a very smart and necessary signing IMO.
If we had any other manager but Guardiola then I would understand the point @Dax777 made with Sandler and the point you're arguing about sacrificing potential trophies in the short term for the long term gains.
The fact of the matter is that we have the best manager of a generation (for my money he's the best of all time, in every sport too, 0 hyperbole on my end there either...). You don't goof off and bet on youth when you're in the position that we're in. You maximize every single little edge you can and get the most out of Pep when he's here. Our squad/recruitment has been so incredible lately that we literally don't need even have a spot in our starting 11 that needs upgrading. Ferandinho/Gundogan, Nico/Stones is sufficient to win every trophy next season but we aren't satisfied with settling. We're doing exactly what I talked about and maximizing Pep's opportunities to win and I sincerely admire that. Maguire / Cancelo would be a perfect window for improving our squad...ESPECIALLY if Nico stays another season. Unfortunately, there's the homegrown quota and he's one of the few that are available AND that are good enough to play on our squad and also help us hit that number.
There's 0.0 chance we pay 80m and have him on 280k a week either! We only sign players that WANT to be here. If he comes then it'll be on similar wages to Laporte with nice bonuses. Depending on how stubborn and how much Maguire is willing to push for the move will determine if that number is closer to 60 or 70. I could see us offering bonuses but allowing them to win the media war in stating the fee.
Not a huge fan of the player myself but the considering the state of our squad I think it's yet another wise move.
Garcia is younger than Sandler and on what we've seen a lot better.Fair enough. This assumes Sandler is inferior though. For what we do, I don't think he is. But I'll concede Maguire has tools that are undeniable on Cornerkicks. And that addition might be superior to any ball skill Sandler posseses.
I'm sure there are. He isn't as tall as Maguire or as Physical. He joined a team with 4 senior CBs. And then he got a serious injury. Is their any weaknesses to suggest why he hasn’t been given a chance so far? I’ve got to admit I’ve not seen the lad other than the odd few minutes he’s had here and there.
