Maguire nearly got caught tonight because of a lack of passing options. I don't think he would be short of passing options in a City side.

The same goes for Stones. In the City side two or three of are midfielders or are fullbacks would have given him options along with even Ederson before he got pressed.

Even with a highline we play Maguire will fit well if he comes but it will take a period of him adapting just like most of are players have had the the last 2 years and opportunity to do.
 
Has he ever player right central defender in his career? Becuase he isn't knocking Laporte off his position.

His pace and mobility is the big concern for me. Skills absolutely required to play in Pep's system.

I just don’t think he’s a good defender. He was total crap tonight. So was stones and walker, imagine all three at the back ? Christ all mighty

Add De Ligt and it would be a disaster. Fortunately, I'm sure they are all capable of better than they showed this evening. We certainly know our 2 are.
 
Just have to look at the performance of stones and walker tonight with zero options infront of them to see how little you can take from his performance in possession. Didn’t like his dribbling, all too often it was running into dead alleys and ended up with him over stretching or giving it away. He’s just nowhere near a £90 million player.

The others not experienced at this level. I'd like to think Pep will accept the 4th centre half as one of the later 4 or 5, but I'm not certain.
 
Good solid defender, adds a bit of steel at the back with Vinny gone. He's no Baresi but who is, I still think he'd be a good addition to the squad and improve a lot with Pep.

If Khaldoon and Txiki think he's worth an outlay of £90m then that'll do for me. I don't get why fans are arsed what we pay, it's not our money. If he improves the side then he's worth it.
 
I’ll stick with my original thoughts, he’s a fucking tugboat.

His thought process in possession is even slower than Walkers. It’s like watching ‘elephant football’ or old style subbuteo even when it’s the simplest 5 yard pass. It’s like he has to completely stop the ball for a second or two and move his body around it to try to get in the correct position to kick it because he can only use his right foot. Then he thinks about it for a couple more seconds, moves a bit more, lines himself up and kick. I’ve seen more subtlety in an under 5’s game.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t expect a 6’3” defender to move around with the delicacy of one of the Silva’s or to pop passes about like Pirlo but there has to be some manipulation of the ball and ability to play the simple 5-10-15 yard passes with either foot quickly and efficiently. As Pep says the “simple things”.

He's a cart horse. He can't move his feet, his use of the ball is piss poor, he often just overruns it straight into the path of another teams attacker.

As @Zin 'messiah' Zimmer said, I thought the ambition was to win the CL not the EL.
