Pep obviously hasn't got the pool of expertise bluemoon has.

Amazing isn’t it! One of if not the greatest managers of all time knows less than some guys on here? ;-) pretty much every England player was shit last night and although stones mistake was horrific I personally blame the midfield as at city our midfield create angles and easy passes for the defenders to put the ball into? Stones looked up, was getting pressed and had no instant options? Then in fairness he panicked and instead of giving it to Pickford to clear made a complete hash of the whole situation.

It's also fair to point ot some of those hadn't played for 4 weeks, Stones and Delph for months.

Maguire isn't better than any defender we have so that in of itself is a reason to steer clear. He doesn't improve us in any way.

He doesn't need to improve just give us more depth and something different. Improving fro 198 points isn't really a thing , having more depth to maintain it is. If we buy him it's because Pep thinks he have what we need. Doesn't mean he can't be wrong or it doesn't work, but he has done enough to be trusted and if I thought a player wasn't good enough and Pep did, I think I'd wait and see how he does because chances are he'll be right and I'll be wrong.

The others not experienced at this level. I'd like to think Pep will accept the 4th centre half as one of the later 4 or 5, but I'm not certain.
In this instance I think Talent trumps experience and Maguire isn’t good enough for this team. £90m ?? I wouldn’t pay £25m for him because he simply wouldn’t fit

He’d cost more for sure, but Koulibaly is worth that kind of money.

He’d cost £100m minimum but he’s easily top 5 in the world. A monster of a defender and excellent on the ball.

Koulibaly is definitely the best CB in the Italian League which is known for its defenders.

Makes me sick to think Liverpool bagged VVD for £75M and we're talking £90M for Maguire.

Maguire looks to have good passing skills, and ability to bring the ball out, but he just looks so clumsy. In reality hes worth £35M.... not £90M. Imagine a defence with Walker Stones Maguire and Mendy. Fucking hell. The opposition would have a field day in behind.

Sterling, Bernard, Gundogan, Ottamendi, Walker, Stones Kompany, Aguero, Jesus and more all received doubts and criticisms either about price, form or whether they would fit in. I can't think of one player above who didn't go on to eventually justify the clubs decision to purchase or stick with them through periods of patchy form. There's no way of telling exactly how Maguire will pan out if he comes but given he knows are league, is experienced and won it as well as being a regular international I think it's a fair bet to suggest he will be okay. Particularly in a city team that average 60-to 70 percent posession.
DeLigt is clearly a rising talent clearly is or going to be world class and improved as the game wore on last night but he was not exactly tested against this England side. The one time I've seen him genuinely tested was against Spurs and he did not shine in any sense that night. He was rushing about out of position trying to put out fires like David Luis when Brazil got hammered by Germany in the World Cup a few years back. He showed little capacity to organise his defence and or indeed the team. Hence Ajax were a shambles and went out of the Champs league after being 2 or 3 up. Probably his age and inexperience was a lot to do with that but his inability to help manage the situation being captain was evident. I do agree that the price for Maguire needs to be sensible but we have years of evidence to prove that in the cut and thrust of the Prem he can hold his own and lead which is exactly what we will need more of at the back with the departure of Komps.

I don't think we'll go anywhere near Napoli after last season and Jorginho

So before we even seen him in a pep team your saying “he doesnt improve us in anyway”?

Why dont we wait(if he does sign)and see for ourselves if he does actually improve us and not preempt hey.

Is Maguire worse than when Drinkwater was sold to Chelsea?

He went for £35m, and that was 2 seasons ago.

The price for HG players for the top clubs who often struggle to fill the required numbers in their squads is way over the actual value.

It's just the madness of that market.

The issue for me is who starts beside Laporte? Unless I'm missing something it's one of Stones, Maguire (if he comes here), or Otamendi (if he stays) and quite honestly I have serious questions about all three of them. Stones seems to go through months-long spells where his concentration and mentality completely flounders. Otamendi has a tendency towards recklessness, which I admit he's done better at the past two years, but also has positional errors that lead to him chasing down forwards from behind trying to make dangerous tackles that can lead to free kicks and penalties. Maguire... Well, maybe he's better than I fear, but I've never been extremely impressed with him.

Depth is fine, but starting any of those three doesn't inspire confidence in me that we'll win the Champions League.

The way I see it he will be a useful if unspectacular addition. I would see him as a replacement ultimately for Otto rather than Vinny. We may have to go to the market again in near future unless the likes of Garcia make a breakthrough. The fact is we are in the midst of a tricky CB transition and MaGuire may be the best option currently available.

I think the biggest problem people are having with this is the price. If the quoted price was circa £30 mill I don't think anyone would have a problem with him, but £90 mill, jeez!
Personally, I think if he does come it won't be for anywhere near that price.
iirc Leicester wanted a lot more for Mahrez than we ended up paying eventually.

I think Maguire if he comes is the Komp replacement particularly in respect of his height and physicality. Komp dealing with Troy Deeney in the FA Cup springs to mind. I happen to think Maguire is a very good all round CB and or footballer, but I would imagine that duels with the Troy Deeneys of this world or a Monday night at Burnleyoor Crystal Palace is where he will particularly show his worth and strengths.
