Has it been a good/poor season?

On the one hand, disappointing. Especially after the lofty heights. We're right to be underwhelmed.
On the other, we've won 1 (or 2 depending on viewpoint) trophy, made a semi final and a quarter final, and still finished comfortably second in what can be considered a real weak season. You'd think there'd be some regression upwards towards something less demoralising.

As a completely different way of looking at it, according to these forums: Ederson can't make saves. Laporte isn't that good a defender it turns out. Garcia is useless. Walker and Mendy are braindead. Gundogan is the shittest player in the club's history. Rodri is crap. Fernandinho is old. Silva is old. Mahrez is forever underwhelming. Bernardo is a shell of himself. Sterling and Jesus are completely unreliable. It's quite possible we've actually overachieved this season and massively overachieved in previous seasons and with this ragtag bunch of losers any other manager would have struggled to make the top 6.
Great post

Poor, unquestionably. Have we become spoiled by our achievements in recent seasons? Yeah, more than likely. If you compare this season to some of the dark seasons in the 90s, it's been pretty good. One trophy won (two, if you include the pre season kickabout at Wembley; I don't), CL qualification and perhaps our biggest victory of all, in Lausanne. But we're living in the here and now, not 25 years ago. So; by those standards, yes; it's been poor.

This season marked a turning point and the direction was downwards. I feel Pep let early poor performances in the league slip without cracking the whip as it was clear Europe was our main objective. I believed the team picked up on that and league performances slid. Pep put all our eggs in the one basket and then dropped the basket.
Next Season we'll be chased hard by the pack . Hopefully we'll at least make a contest of it with Liverpool but unless we sign a proper striker, and further strengthen in midfield and defence it will be a re-run of 20/21.

Poor to me is ending up trophyless and not getting out of the group stages of the Champions League ot just ticking over and just qualifying for the Champions League through 4th place with not a sniff of a cup.

Disappointing in comparison with the previous 2 seasons under Pep but still better than the 16/17 season. After 16/17 we had two great seasons. Let's hope the step back in 19/20 will help us have two fantastc seasons in a row. We are winning the quadruple :)

Manager 7/10
Players 8/10
Support 5/10 ( slagged off every player, generated an average atmosphere that has done little to lift any underperformers , we played better at home when it was empty )

10/15 years ago it would have been a phenomenal season, but as the club evolves so do our expectations.

I think the issue for me this year is that we seem to not have a leader.

We spent the entirety of the post lockdown game bigging up the FA Cup, that was the biggest game of the season for us at the time. A competition we wanted to win and were determined to win, and then we went out with a wimper against Arsenal.

Then we started to focus on The champs league, did well against Real but then wimpered out again Lyon- it's seems we've forgotten how to perform in high pressure situations.

We've lost locker room leaders in Kompany and Delph and not really replaced them.

Pep is the greatest manager we've ever had, he's a pure footballing genius- his downfall will always be his overthinking, and he's probably not the one to being us the Champions league, but I don't know who is.

Disappointing season for many reasons, still plenty of positives too- KDB, Walker, Foden, CAS etc
