Has it been a good/poor season?

As has happened a few times since our first title win we have underachieved this season. As a City of over 40 years I find it amazing that a season with a trophy is now deemed a shocker. There are only a few positives from the season - KDB, Sterling and Foden are about it for me. Pep has had a shocker and too many of the pluses of previous years haven't maintained their standards.

Given the level of investment and quality at our disposal we have to expect to progress to finals and be much closer to a league title. Being undone by the 7th best team in France was not in the script.

Living in the emotion of the moment this season feels like the worst since pre Bobby. We have to recognise that we don’t have a right to win every game every trophy... but applying a principal of relativity along side our investments on transfers and the theory we learn as we go bollocks then this feels bad. The biggest failing for me is not trusting the biggest investment we have made in 10 years ...The Academy.... if he doesn’t build the team round Foden at least from game one next season then worse than this will be in store
It’s the manner of all our losses this season, honestly don’t think we have been part of a thriller and lost worst still all our losses not one even had draw on it and rued losing a point... that makes it one of the worst for me

Poor season by recent standards even though we bagged a trophy.

Some excellent high scoring wins but in amongst it some abysmal performances.

Norwich and Wolves away still giving me nightmares, both defeats inexcusable if you want to win things.

Meek cup defeats to Arsenal and Lyon have just put a complete damper on the later part of the season.

By our current standards this is a poor season. I think the league title loss was probably inevitable given we'd won 2 in a row and Liverpool hadnt won in 30 years and wanted that off their back like nothing else, was hard to match their motivation. But still should have ran them much closer and I still kind of think if we'd been in touching distance going into the last 10 games, they would have choked but they had a pass on that pressure.

The CL is another embarrassment. City go out to a team that's worse than them every year under guardiola. It's really disappointing. Overall it's a poor year by a top level side.

The 7th best team in France argument isn’t a good one. On paper we should be winning that game but Lyon are clearly a very good team on their day as last night, their win over Juventus, and their 2 games against us last season proved. Teams have often won the Champions League/European Cup despite having a poor season in their own league. Liverpool won it in 2005 and finished 5th. They won it in 1981 and again finished 5th. Villa won it in 1982 and finished 11th. Chelsea won it in 2012 and finished 6th.

Even managed to make hard work of that as well, gave Villa encoragement to find the results to avoid relegation.

Do you expect teams to roll over just because it’s us? Villa could forget the worry of relegation & play as the underdogs. That’s how football works. They’re not a bad side & went for it. But we won.

Spot on!

The owners didnt invest to win the League Cup every season. Pep was brought in to win the CL and his decisions and team selection for the QF rounds have been baffling.

Poor season in my opinion

Poor by any measure, the direction of travel is down, we buy the same type of players to play a style of football that has been found out

Poor season on the pitch. Too many defeats against poor teams. Too much changing the team from game to game which can’t help especially the defence. The biggest victory was the judgement in Switzerland where the cartel failed to ruin us. Had we lost there things would be bleak. As it is at least the club can control our future.

Well Watford got a good stuffing in the FA Cup Final the previous year and they were no better than Villa.
