We should build a new stadium on the land we have acquired for the training complex, 65,000 seats would suffice in my opinion.

When that is built, put the training complex on the current Etihad site! You could even part use the existing stadium for the EDS by removing the top two tiers and putting a new roof on.

Makes more sense to me than trying to extend the existing stadium.

I'm sure they considered all that when they took over, but realised it was not viable finacially and opted for going aheard with the training complex.

A new stadium could be built on north car park The Training / Academy complex is key to the project

Re: Time to expand the ground

I would like to see us expand the stadium, for 2 reasons:

1) Mancini and others are mentioning us in the same breath as Barcelona & Real Madrid - and in this country, we have caught-up United and overtaken Arsenal ... yet, while our capacity is only half of some of those clubs - and there are 4 clubs with bigger capacities in the Premier League (more once Chelsea and Liverpool build their new stadia) ... can we really claim to be on a par with those teams ?

2) There are lots of kids out there just now who would jump at the chance to watch City ... seems a shame to shut them out as we may lose them forever ... best to jump in while the iron is hot (sorry for the mixed metaphor).
I have other members of my family, for a start, who would love to get a City season-ticket but there don't seem to be any available.

Maybe but the council own the stadium and any planning permission has to be aprroved by them, so I doubt it will happen.

Re: Time to expand the ground

The owners won't expand the stadium until they finish the 150m+ worth project for new academy complex, training center, stadium for the reserves, etc.

Re: Time to expand the ground

I tend to agree with the "hot ticket" theory because at the moment we dont sell all our corporate boxes and seats regularly for all our games, we just dont have businesses wanting to fill the places, so we certainly dont need more of these seats. Demand will grow now of course but we can get top prices for what we have.

If we expanded the regular seating it would have to be a third tier at each end but would have to do one at a time otherwise too many seats lost in the building period. How many seats could be added 5,000? 6,000? at third tier prices, say £2-£3 million extra income per year? Cost of build? I would guess at least £50 million? There is no value to our owners other than an extra £2-£3 million pa for FFP but lets be real that's nowt in the big scheme of things.

The hot tickets will be the pay by the game tickets.
