Has the BBC become a Tory tool?

Carry On Minister…

’Asked one Conservative MP what the strategy is behind many of their Tory colleagues going into battle with Gary Lineker, one of Britain’s most popular presenters. “There isn’t one”, came the reply.’ @ITV

Balance is allowing all your presenters/talent outside of the news & politics programming to speak freely in public outside of their jobs, not just the ones who support the government.
If they sign up to earning seven figure sums by observing certain contractual conditions, maybe not.

I don’t support the government on this issue but nor do I support faux martyrs playing to their chosen galley. If they call his bluff, that’s OK with me. If he winds it in that’s equally OK.

Amazing the headlines this is generating. Man breaks work guidelines and gets sacked from.prsenting job is essentially what has happened.

Lineker and Shearer were tedious in the extreme, look at the positives people. Shearer in particular was truly awful.

No one down the pub tonight gave a two hoots about Lineker or his supposed virtuous stance. Im thinking that represents the vast majority of British people.
Which work guidelines did he break?

Lineker's already confirmed he's under no such contractual demand.

that's why the get the live games not the highlights as they pay more for the live games and not the highlights. I've no idea what you're argument is and you clearly don't know what a contract is

what I am saying is the BBC lacks the financial clout to secure live broadcasts. The two that do have the cash for live UK broadcast lock the BBC out - thats how contracts work - the BBC "saving" from presenter contracts is a drop in the ocean compared to the cost and the prize - the idea that somehow an agreed contract between parties is open to renegotiation mid season is - and I am sorry to say this - fucking stupid. The two big payers lock the small player out and in effect dictate terms. Were the PL to to say hey you know what we will take a quid more for longer highlights then the biggest paymasters can say enjoy your quid we are paying a fiver less.

The BBC have royally fucked this up and whatever your prejudices may be enjoy a silent MoyD - if it even fucking airs coz at this moment its looking like you may well get Where Eagles Dare instead

Isn’t Sugar a Labour guy? Whatever, he’s a total prick. So what was your point again?
“He fronts a supposedly impartial institution and shouldn’t be making inflammatory and overtly political comments full stop,” is what you said. Seems like it only matters if the government are being criticised was my point, which is a bit concerning, to me at least.
Don’t you find it a bit odd that the doyens of free speech suddenly become deniers of free speech, when it’s about them.
Mind you, they’re cancelling Attenborough now, so I’ve no idea what’s going on anymore.

You are the perfect example of what this is all about, ignoring what we are all about and concentrating on the basic level.

This isn’t about MotD, nor football, it’s not about the media, it’s about people coming to this country who are claiming asylum. Yet we are, as a country, allowing that issue to cloud our judgement.

Unless we are thinking that there should be no routes for refugees to seek?

As for down the pub, you were all half pissed and your big man bravo takes control. We’ve all been there.

Am I missing something here.
Linekar like him or not has voiced his opinion on twitter or what ever it is.
And some people don't agree with his opinion..

It's that the point of an opinion.
If he's Labour tory or what ever he's entitled to an opinion?
I believe he signed a contract with the BBC as a contractor, the contract had an impartiality clause which he has breached, several times.
I think other senior presenters have voiced their opinion as to why he can do that and presumably they can't.
So unless the BBC acted they could all start with their own particular soapboxes.

Gary Lineker is paid by and is the face of BBC sport. He can't suddenly start condemning the Government when the BBC's doctrine is impartiality. Having a senior figure attacking the Gov is not a viable situation.
