Have you ever moved/lived abroad? What was your experiences, best advice?

Cork for a time which was ace. Still go back to watch games with the supporters club now and then. Currently should be in Poland, but not been there much thanks to covid times. Landlord's enjoying his free rent I'm sure. Managed to get the residency sorted before brexit kicked in though so that's good. Best advice, jump in with both feet, get to know the local ways as soon as and don't hide away in your own little bubble, which is obvs difficult right now.

Interested to read the comments on here about NZ. I’ve heard some people who have visited or gone for extended stays says it can be quite ‘isolating’ if you are used to the UK. Esp on the South Island you’ll see a “town” marked on the map that turns out to be about 4 houses. Not sure that sort of remoteness all the time would go down too well with me. I mean Lord of The Rings scenery is all very nice, but given the choice of the two, I’d choose Australia 100% of the time.

Trust me, there's that kind of remoteness in Australia too

Absolutely pal, but there also is a lot more of the non-remoteness in Oz too, when compared to NZ. ie you have the choice.
Got family in Perth, the most remote city in the world.

Left the UK in 2001 to study in Spain and Germany. Ended up spending the next 13 years in Germany before moving to Austria 7 years ago. Found a job I enjoyed and decided to get more qualifications, and I’ve not once regretted it. I love the European way of life and have no plans to ever move back to the UK. As long as I can still have my fix of City on TV and the occasional European away game, I’m happy. Good beer, beautiful women and a job I love.

what line of work are you in?

Split with the Mrs at 34. Got a job In Zurich, stayed 2 years, then moved to Dublin for a year and loved it, then moved to Brussels for 7 years and loved it. Met a new bird from london and moved to London for 1 year, and hated it. So got a job in Zurich again and the GF followed me here. Still here after 8 years and will probably never leave. Still think the split with my Mrs at 34 was the best thing that ever happened to me.

Lived here in NZ for 20 years now.. would never consider returning to my birth country. I still have family there and keep in touch via social media... but life is good here... (virtually covid free) no social transmission for weeks/months.. if you have a trade .. I would defo recommend it... I'm a sparkie and I turn work away on a daily basis. If the phone stopped ringing I would have work for 9 months ... tough for the first few months but Kiwis are friendly hugging people... they will help you at at any time ( reminds me of the neighbours at 1 am on a Sunday morning all turning up with tractors to drag the step daughter's car out of a 10 meter ditch) was a social gathering i guess as my nearest neighbour is 4km away from my house.
Spent 3 months working at a kids activity centre in Nguarawahia in 1992. Loved it and travelled around about too.
Hitched it everywhere and women on their own would stop and offer a lift. It was like being in England 30 years prior!
