Have you ever moved/lived abroad? What was your experiences, best advice?

Spent most of the last 30 years abroad. Czech Republic, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Slovenia and Thailand.

As many have said, the best advice IMO is to learn the language and don't limit yourself to the local expat community. You'll have a much richer experience that way.

Lived here in NZ for 20 years now.. would never consider returning to my birth country. I still have family there and keep in touch via social media... but life is good here... (virtually covid free) no social transmission for weeks/months.. if you have a trade .. I would defo recommend it... I'm a sparkie and I turn work away on a daily basis. If the phone stopped ringing I would have work for 9 months ... tough for the first few months but Kiwis are friendly hugging people... they will help you at at any time ( reminds me of the neighbours at 1 am on a Sunday morning all turning up with tractors to drag the step daughter's car out of a 10 meter ditch) was a social gathering i guess as my nearest neighbour is 4km away from my house.

Am retired now spend about 9-10 months each year living in Aktinkum .Turkey
Love every minute of it .The friendliness of the people, the weather, the food , everything is at a more relaxed pace
Only disapointment which is my fault is i find it is a very hard language to learn ( majority of people speak English) but i keep plodding away
If you get a chance to work, live abroad give it a go but remeber it is not a holliday or you will come unstuck

Have you bought there or do you rent?

Lived and worked in Bermuda for three years, loved it. Met loads of British ex-pats, we had a great social scene, played right back for the footy team, visited the States a couple of times, learnt to scuba dive, I'd definitely recommend it. Probably still be out there but met the ex-Mrs and we both decided to come back to Blighty as we wanted to buy a house and have kids - six months later we were split up. Even met Shaun Goater out there in a bar called Henry VIIIs, still got the autograph.
Do you know Darren who has a cobblers shop there?

I want to give it a go at some point, my wife would as well, I know she would have issues moving abroad and being away from her mum. Something lockdown taught us though as we didn’t see family for a few months, modern tech makes it easier and when you do see them it will probably be for longer periods and not just an hour or so at the weekend.

I am working towards chartered engineer status and once I’ve nailed that I think we will give it a go.
