Hillsborough - The Search for Truth

2.11.56 Beyond the issues of language, more significant alterations were made changing the meaning or balance of statements. Some 116 of the 164 substantially amended statements removed or altered comments unfavourable to SYP. These included 41 statements in which alterations downplayed or removed criticisms made by officers of their leadership and of the police response to the disaster
Sorry but i had to put that up,FFS.
.11.60 Police Constable Maxwell Groome's observation that 'The Control Room seemed to have been hit by some sort of paralysis' was deleted.[37] Concerned by what he identified as poor management overall, he considered the decision to replace C/Supt Mole as match commander shortly before the match should be scrutinised. The following material was deleted:

(7) The decision to replace Chief Superintendent Mole before the semi-final needs to come under some scrutiny. This man had many years experience of policing big matches at Hillsborough.

(8) Compared to other semi-finals held at Hillsborough, the organisation of this event was poor, as has been the case for most of the season. Too little notice had been taken of current trends and football intelligence and too much reliance has been placed upon previous information held.

(9) Too many non-operational supervisory officers were in charge of important and critical parts of the football ground.

(10) The deployment of officers around the crucial time needs to come under scrutiny, too many were sat around in the gymnasium whilst others were rushed off their feet.[38]
This was deleted & never used.

This isn't anything like 'justice'.

The filth and tories rock up 25 years later and just go 'yeah we lied, sorry' and that's that.

To be fair, the ones representing them today weren't responsible.

I don't even think Thatcher or her cronies at the time tried to cover up anything either. More a misplaced sense of believing what they were told by the Police, coupled with a complete detachment from the match going experience at that time of the vast majority of fans.

I doubt they even cared to be honest.

I'll be hammered if I posted my true opinions but for me, this is a huge injustice and if I was personally involved I'd want blood.

How many more times must the filth and the tories collude to pervert justice and attack/kill/maim and rape the working man?

Just goes to show though TMQ that a collective body of like minded individuals CAN get truth and some measure of justice. Takes tenacity and courage though when up against the 'Establishment.'
Let's hold onto that.

Conservative PM makes a statement blaming the police but conveniently forgets about Thatchers demonising of football supporters at the time and her probable influence over the police statements and that vile newspaper report.

There is that.

I only hope that incidents like this encourage more people to come forward and expose corruption and brutality.

A lot of the information revealed today was out there in the public domain through books on hillsborough such as the phil scraton and anne Williams ones but people chose not to believe them. It was easier to blame it on drunken ticketless fans. But inquiry after inquiry tried to cover it up.

Absolutely true.

This should have got alarm bells ringing:

Following the tragedy, the Police Complaints Authority decided Chief Superintendant of SY Police David Duckenfield and his deputy Bernard Murray should face disciplinary charges of neglect of duty.

But in November 1990 Duckenfield retired from the force on ill-health grounds (post tramautic stress disorder) before disciplinary proceedings could be completed.

The PCA decided to withdraw the charge against Murray because it considered it would have been unfair to pursue it in the absence of the more senior officer.

2.11.116 Police Constable John Woodcock's statement was subject to an extensive deletion, including the following text:

I saw Inspector Harry White at the de-brief. He told me that his serial usually got the job of putting the crowd in the different pens at the rear of the goal mouth, working from the outside to the centre, but for some reason he'd been told to let the fans find their own level, on this occasion, resulting in too many going into the area immediately behind the goal. I could tell he was distressed by what had happened.[85]
So that's why all the fans went into the centre.

Please tell me this is not true, if it is action has to be taken.

Quote from BBC News:

"The prime minister Margaret Thatcher was briefed by her private secretary Bernard Ingham that the behaviour of the South Yorkshire Police was despicable".

That means she knew about it and did nothing!!

Thatcher still raises rare passions from people on here. But the fact she did nothing is no suprise. The tory ideology of the day was to demonise the working class. Hillsborough gave them the perfect tool to carry on with attacks on the poor. By characterising all football fans as thieves drunks and hoolingans there narrative became mainstream modern thought. Football fans were scum, in those days football was almost 100% a workinng class game. By association with football, the working class in effect became the scum of the tory narrative. Even today that narrative continues with the likes of Camerons "broken Britain".

As a regular home and away follower from the late 70s, i witnessed some appaling treatment dished out by the police towards fans. We were all seen as scum, scum because we followed and dared to love a football club. I dont mean to sound patronising here, but the young posters on here would just not believe what happened in those days. Football today is so far removed from that of the days of Hillsborough it isnt true.

The truth is now out, perceptions need to change, football fans are not scum, we just love a game and are passionate about it. Now we need justice and we need to see it being done. Its important not only for the families of the 96 and the people of Liverpool but for all football fans who suffered huge miscarriages of abuse, intimidation and harrasment at the hands of the establishment, the media and the police. JFT96
you must be in my age range mid 50s and there was always aggro at every game in the 70s shamed to say i was one of dick heads that went looking for it ,granted it wasn't everyone but it was part of culture then skinheads ect

Now with the release of this information today, will those within the police force retired or still serving be brought before the courts, disgraceful that the police yet again have covered up or altered statements,i hope they get whats coming to them scum of the earth....
