Hoffenheim (H) Post Match Thread

Job done thanks to Leroy. Result was the most important thing tonight. Performance was a level or two below what you'd expect from our side and it showed we had soma key players out but it was a decent enough display all things considered. Some are going way over the top with Foden. We need to stop judging him as 18 year old Foden and simply part of the first team Foden because that's what he is now and therefore he should be judged on the same level as the rest of the midfield. He had a good game tonight but it wasnt out of this world as some things ive read would have you believe. Sane decided to be the main man tonight, he's won games in the past and put in some amazing displays but I'm not sure I've seen him single handedly take the game by the scruff of the neck like that, it's usually Sane doing the business via the genius of a Silva or KDB. Was great to see and we will need that more often from him over the winter period and beyond. Did what we had to tonight but I'd be a bit concerned if that was our starting 11 on Saturday and we turned in a similar performance, need to up our game for the weekend.

Well that was more exciting than I wanted. Sane -- superstar, game changer. Well played Raheem and Phil in the 2nd half - pity that volley was saved. Also a mention to Laporte - what a defender he is! Gundogan I wish was more adventurous he always plays safe and is not creative enough. A pity because he can be. Well pleased to win with 50% of the 1st choice players missing.
Bloody freezing on my motorbike. Think I might start supporting Liverpool. I'd been home in 15 minutes.

Disagree. We should judge him as an 18 year old breaking into the first team. Because that's what he is.

I would say so, Laporte had his arms around The Hoffenheim player although I thought he went down very easily. I thought The Hoffenheim player may have been offside before the foul but I’m not certain about that.

I thought he looked off side at first. But on replay, definately on. You have to be more careful when defending in the area like that.
The player is more often than not, going to hit the deck. It gives the ref a decision to make. We'd have expected it, at the other end.

No not well played Raheem , too often made the wrong decision at the crucial moment in front of goal.

I like the fact that he creates situations by taking risks. He's not content playing the safe ball. Sometimes it doesn't come off but it creates excitement and opportunity. OK I agree he can make the wrong decision but on the whole his play was explosive.

Zinchenko had a Garrido v Chelsea performance.
I don't think so. Delph was no improvement. Unless Mendy gets back to full fitness soon we are going to have problems with the left back position. Delph nearly beheaded a Hoffenheim player at one stage. Pep needs to make a decision on who is his back up to mendy and stick with him.

How the firkins did those three conspire to miss that chance? I have never seen THREE attackers outnumbering just an oppo goalkeeper. I have wavering in my belief that we are cursed to concede the most bizarre goals the world has ever seen to one where we miss in the most bewildering manner.

World class players always take risks. Cruyff, Messi, Dave Ewing were renowned for not following a simple pattern but trying something to see if it worked.

Was worth the £20 to see Sané’s performance and many things didn’t even come off for him, but what a young player he is!

The game, errr, just another ‘going-through-the-motions’ Group Stage CL game.

He's not breaking into the first team, he's a fully fledged part of the first team and has been all season. Our squad isn't 24 players (I'm aware we might have less) plus Foden, they're all an equal part of the squad. Pep keeps telling us he's part of the first team like the other guys whenever he is questioned on his readiness, and reiterates hes the same as any of our other midfielders, he won't be treated differently because of his age by pep and its about time us fans do the same.

Enjoyed that.

Few observations.

Good crowd, sane excellent as was sterling.

Zinchenko not in great form. Foden still a bit raw.

Still not sure on Jesus.

If we get everyone fit we can win this!
