Holiday advice

AC has been on non stop since end of Feb mate and will remain on until December. (We do have a big hairy Newfoundland dog though so my Mrs usually wears several layers inside)

Blimey that long - according to the daily mail the virus uses these channels as another cunning way to circumnavigate quarantine restrictions - must be true then!

@Academica ..... Update on my Greek holiday in October, just had a look on the TUI website and they want over 50% of the holiday cost to cancel rising as the date gets closer.

Upshot is I've decided to now pay the fucker up on my Credit Card rather than just lose my deposit as I don't want to big fuck off bill & no holiday...If it all goes tits up I'm assuming Visa will be my friend.

It's the best option but a lot of people can't afford to pay if they've lost their job so are just taking the hit. One idea is you could pay it then contact your credit card company to ring-fence the amount so it doesn't attract interest and can just sit there - just say you paid it under duress, it might work. Also a few years ago I got charged by BitDefender for anti-virus that I had cancelled and couldn't get a reply from them, so I rang my bank up and they credited the amount back to my card until the query was resolved. When the company refunded me I obviously had to pay the bank back. This might just be because I have a bank account and insurance with them too, though.

Incidentally I was due to fly out with TUI on the 14th May but got the email yesterday saying the credit note/voucher was being processed and this would be sent within 30 days of travel, so mid June. Then I have to telephone for a refund and that could take it to July/August by the time it is settled. That should give you an idea of when the money will be back with you. Personally I think TUI have missed a trick, they should have offered to match the price paid on another trip for a similar period next year, because it looks like everyone is going to ask for money back rather than re-book at inflated prices.

Airlines like Easyjet, Delta, American and others have announced that they might scrap the middle seats on flights to stop overcrowding.

This essentially reduces the capacity to 66% or so and must budget airlines need 75% to breakeven.

My questions are?
Do you think fare prices might go up 30-40% to overcompensate for the lost of seats?
Do you think its worth booking flights for Winter/Spring 20/21 now to get deals before price fares go up?

Do you expect fares to go up? but countering this...will demand to be lower from public? due to financial or health reasons...

i wouldnt have any problems with booking say ryanair to tenerife for winter 21 and paying in full (flight only),lets be honnest if its not over by then were up shit creek anyway, 'not to sure how far in advance they take bookings', if your long haul i wouldnt risk it as deposits are around £300 PP, definatly the cheep flight are about and will only go up

I changed a flight with Easyjet to Italy as far ahead as I could, end of February 2021.
I still don’t think I’ll get there.

Agreed - i think cheap budget flights will def go up 40% to overcompensate their loses from today and reduced seats.
I am considering risking something long haul like Japan for early 2021 and its reasonably priced ATM but there is a risk of putting hundreds up front and it be cancelled. Plus the price could go down or up and i get a bargain. I can use something like STA Blue ticket and maybe cancel later.

Not sure how long Easyjet can continue to get away with not providing refunds. They seem to be using customers' money to resolve their solvency issues interest free..

I've been waiting 5 weeks for my refund. I applied for one as soon as my flight back in March was cancelled and was told it would take 3-5 days. They've shut their phone lines, they're ignoring emails and the twitter account is just sending automated generic replies.

I can afford to wait later in the year for a refund but I imagine there are many customers desperate for a refund due to change in their personal circumstances. I'd opt for a voucher or book new flights but nervous they will go bust.

EasyJet have released their flights for Easter next year. Anyone who has flights cancelled can legally move to these dates for free no matter what was originally paid.

lot of schedules not released for that far ahead yet.
Not unless they’ve dropped Rome from the schedule

They won’t fly with empty middle seats.
I’ve just pushed my flights back as far as possible.
If we’re still not travelling in April there will be no Easyjet anyway so I’ll use sec 75 to get a credit card refund.
