Holiday advice

Whilst a lot of consciousness people will think it’s not wise to take family and kids away immediately once the restrictions are lifted there will be a fact of those who will look to get away as soon as possible.

Won’t matter if it’s term time or not. There will be a bounce back from this

Here's one to mull over for people with kids at school..
Lets say restrictions are lifted 1st September for all travel, would you take your child out of school in term time in order to holiday and what do you reckon the repercussions by the law would be ?..

Was supposed to go away today. Booked hotel and flight separately, opted for the refund on the flights about 2 weeks ago (Lufthansa), was told could take months. Hotel have offered a voucher for 12 months, didn't have to to be fair as it was paid up front and non refundable. Holiday insurance is useless even though it was booked months ago, they won't pay out on the hotel as we have been offered a credit note (even though that is likely to be of little use to us).

Had non refundable hotels booked in UK and Dublin for this weekend and next week. Both offered rebooking which they did not have to.

UK just changed dates honouring the price. Dublin added a 50E admin fee and 5% price increase for same dates next year!

A bit shabby really but I don't think my travel insurance covers pandemics so at least we haven't lost the lot.

It would be the same as now I guess. You'd be fined depending on the local authority's focus on the matter. They've lost enough time in school and should really be getting back into it rather than two weeks in the sun in my opinion.

Just a heads up. I heard that the EU may suspend the right to a refund due to covid and make a voucher a legal alternative. If like me, you are waiting for flight refunds now might be the time to get shirty with them.

Changing the rules mid flight, whatever next. So what about ATOL and what about all the £2.50 contributions raked into their slush fund all these years ? It's government backed and sacrament so should offer financial recourse as a last resort to those not wishing to receive a crappy voucher toward a more than probable price hiked holiday in the future, no matter what the EU say.

none probably but your kids would fall even further behind in the race for the few future jobs that there will be.

I had non refundable in Tenerife they’ve paid me for one room already, although it’s says non refundable you are entitled to your money if the hotel is closed, obviously if it’s open but you can’t get there then you aren’t entitled. If you booked on a credit card go for a charge back.

ATOL is nothing to do with the EU and so far UK gov have told them to take a hike.
Of course ATOL does not and never has covered flight only bookings with airlines.

Currently the credit card companies are not refunding charge back or credit card sec 75 claims.

I’ve just put a claim in and Martin Lewis was advising people yesterday to do it against Ryanair mate as the6 are fucking people about unlike Jet2. I hope Ryanair go bump and Jet 2 get their routes and employ their staff that twat in charge of Ryanair needs making bankrupt.

I put in a claim weeks ago for over £100 of opera tickets that were refused a refund on a section 75.
Still haven’t heard from them.
Same with a charge back for prepaid hold luggage with Easyjet. Not heard from the bank about that either.
Am going to up them to formal complaints today and refer it to the ombudsman if I still haven’t had a reply in two weeks.

Our cycling trip to Majorca mid May has obviously been cancelled fair play to Jet2 full refund no questions asked, booked with them again for October more in hope than expectation

I've not actually paid yet. Its on Booking and you pay locally. I thought about deleting the account but I'm happy to rebook for next year even with the admin charge. The Dublin Hotel is open but there's nothing to do when we get there and you have to quarantine anyway.

Suppose I'm doing my bit!

So does ATOL cover flight only bookings made through an agent? TravelUp FAQs say NOT if paid in full and tickets issued within 24 hours.

FAQs also states that any section 75 claim will fail due to them “breaking the link between credit card company and airline”

To complete the hattrick they also state IF people don’t accept credits or rebooking of a flight then they will charge (an as yet unspecified) admin fee!

Flight to Munich not due until 18th June for Euros (or not) so they won’t even talk to me yet but the flavour of the FAQs suggest a difficult fight for some or all the £650.
