Holidays

We spent two nights in Bergamo a couple of weekends ago and it was superb. It helped that it was really sunny on the Saturday. Flight prices were pretty cheap but we did book about 6 months in advance.

Booked two nights in Malaga in January next year where we'll be visiting Antiquera.

Motel One Alexanderplatz, right in the heart of the city near the TV tower.

As for things to see:-
  • Brandenberg gate
  • Museum island and Cathedral - the Domcafe built into the catherdral overlooking the river is great
  • The TV Tower - great views
  • Checkpoint Charlie
  • the East Side Gallery, which has a long stretch of remaining Berlin Wall pieces
  • The Berlin Wall Memorial - don't miss the last piece of the wall that still crosses a street - Bergstrasse, which is slightly to the south of the main area
  • Memorial to the Murdered Jews in Europe
  • An absolute gem is the "old" berlin - I think it's called Nikolaivierel - the area surrounding St Nicholas' Church, sandwiched between the River Spree and the area where the TV tower is. We didn't see it on any video guides and only spotted it from the boat trip we did. It'll be on our video when we get it up on YouTube but we have such a backlog at the moment it won't be until after your trip. Anyway, don't miss this area.
  • Walking up the glass dome of the Reichstag was good- it's free but make sure you book in advance AND take your passport, they are very fussy. We managed to talk our way in with a combination of the name on my credit cards and a photo of my daughter's driving license on her phone but I'd rather have not have had to talk my way through two sets of stern-looking security guards :)
Berlin wasn't something that was on our radar but we absolutely loved it. Hope you all have a great time.
Alexanderplatz is definitely central, but I would recommend staying somewhere just to the north west of it, as that area itself is a bit lacking in character. Maybe somewhere closer to Rosa Luxemburg Platz, Weinmeisterstraße or Hackescher Markt. Unfortunately I don't know hotels though as I've obviously not stayed in one in Berlin. There are some nice bars and restaurants around there too. @Snape

Planning a trip to Berlin in February with my wife and teenage daughter for three nights. Can anyone recommend a nice, central hotel? Also, what are the must-see things to do while we’re there? Looking forward to any tips!
also depending what dates in February you are there, you could try and catch a film at the Berlinale. I've seen some great stuff there over the years I have been here. can be hard to get tickets though. https://www.berlinale.de/en/home.html

Neukolln is a decent/cheap(ish) area to stay. I stayed in a Travelodge style place in Silberstein Strasse last time (5 yrs ago). Turkish cafes nearby for breakfast and a toot on the shisha pipe before you set off. I went to the old Dynamo Berlin FC stadium in Prenzlauer Berg. I just walked in as there was no one around. The good thing about Berlin is the underground subway is really good and you can get 3 day tickets or whatever for various zones.

I found the Soviet/ East Side more interesting. The Soviet War Memorial in Treptow is worth a visit just to see the scale of what happened. Karl-Marx Allee in Friedrichshain is a street like no other. Don't think I've seen such a grand/wide street, more of a boulevard I suppose. Finally, the Stasimuseum in East Berlin was my favourite "touristy" type place. Up the blues 3-1.

Just booked a trip to America with mates. 4 nights in nashville then 4 nights in miami with a road trip to Orlando to fly home

Only really come here from October to March.
Most places close after that due to rainy season.
Id like to try the far east but shes not keen flying more than 7 hrs.
I've been to places with better beaches than like Cuba.
And Kenya fir safari
But not anywhere better as a whole
Thanks a lot. Looking for next year as doing Khao Lak in April.

Off for a week's cruise with an add-on week staying in the Dominican Republic at the end of Feb.

Sorted out a Monza card for spending on but, not sure how many Dollars/Dominican Paso to take for minor miscellaneous buys (odd beach bar beer/ tips at Hotel etc). The cruise is gratuities included .

I was also pondering getting e-sims but the Dom Rep isn't I'm the same group as the other islands we're visiting so I'd need two different ones. I'm leaning to not bothering with them and just using a bit of WiFi out and about. The hotel has solid WiFi apparently for the second week of our holiday.

First time to the Carribbean so any advice particularly on money/esims welcome.

Off to Brastislava tomorrow for 4 days on a mixed stag do, think they're called sten do's or shag do's or summut. Should be a blast, carnage no doubt.

I'll be the only Blue amoungst a dozen or so rags so for that reason alone we need to beat the Arse. Hoping they'll fuck off and leave me to watch the match with the missus but can see us digging in somewhere for the day because of their match before ours.

A City and Palace win will be perfect, of course.

Taking your misses on a stag do??? Strange times we live in :-)

Hi, going to Madrid in September so would appreciate any advice on where to stay, eat and drink. 7 x 40 odd year old blokes going so not looking for any super clubs but maybe a few decent late night bars and restaurants.

I’ve been to Madrid once before when we played Real but it was on a day trip so my experience was limited but enjoyable.

Cheers blues

I'm on a Far East Cruise at the moment and have used Sailey, cost about $3-4 per GB for a week, perfect for your week in the Dominican but you'd need separate plans for the other islands but some maybe grouped together.

Edit, just seen theres 17 Caribbean countries for $14.49.

Cheers I'll have a gander.

Enjoy the Far East Mark.

We're regulars in KL if you wanna PM me for info. We're in Samui at the moment but arrive in KL week after next after Chiang Mai and a bit of touring.
In KL from next Monday, did Singapore before the Cruise, was cloudy and not too hot so KL probably not much different. Didn't know until the other day (whilst on a tour) Singapore is only 1.5 north of the Equator, explains the tropical climate, Chang Mai looks very good, quite different to the South, have a great time.

Ta. By KL I mean Khao Lak. Not the other one!
