Thinking about venturing abroad for the first time in our motor home, got 3 weeks in August, Tesco club card points will pay for the tunnel so from calais I haven't got a clue where is worth going, 2 adults 2 kids aged 12 and 13 to entertain and a daft dog, been looking at St. Malo which looks nice

Unless you do a campsite there is nothing for kids in St Malo.
There are plenty of campsites in Brittany but prebook. I wouldn’t take a chance on just turning up. Also in France you can only park up in a motor home at designated sites.
Northern Brittany tends to have rocky coastlines with some nice beaches but Southern Brittany has better sand beaches. We used to go to this campsite regularly years ago. The kids loved it.

Lake Como is great but a 643 Mile drive to Italy!
Don’t forget you will need the new certificate for dog travel at £150 from your U.K. vet since the end of dog passports and technically you cannot take dog food with you since Brexit if it contains any meat produce but we chance it and have never had a problem.

Oh I will be doing campsites as I have kids to entertain, I'm hesitant to travel to far as its first time driving on the wrong side of the road, the missus being a Catholic fancied lourdes but I think that's much to far, Le Havre or caen looked well within reach

I visit Costa Rica for a 3 week road trip at the start of April. Has anyone been and have any suggestions on things to do or avoid? Gutted I’m going to be missing the first leg of quarters in champions league I’m hoping it’s the home leg so I get the chance to go to the away leg!

know costa rica well, got married there. I would give the carib side a miss, stick to the pacific. Visit as many national parks as poss, the wildlife is incredible, go to Dominical, Jaco, montezuma, Drake, porto jimanez, playa hermosa. avoid tamarindo. try to buy stuff in supermarkets as you will get gringo-ed in the local shops!!! the local people are the most greedy bastards on earth! all in all a good choice for a vacation, the country is stunning in its natural beauty.

Driving in France is a breeze. The roads are in great condition and nothing like as crowded as U.K. roads. Make sure you have enough hi vis jackets for everyone in the car in the passenger compartment. Failure will lead to an on the spot the fine if stopped. St Valery sur Somme has some nice campsites around and it’s full of history. Trouble with going south west from Calais is you are a three hour drive to Caen, Le Havre, etc.. Shame you couldn’t go with Brittany ferries. They serve any of those ports and St Malo and Cherbourg. All on the doorstep.

St Malo is great but busy in summer, Dinard is by far the better option imo.
