Holidays

We go on many little trips each year and love exploring new places and being active on those breaks but like a week if doing bugger all in august.
We love greece and tend to go there most years but have interspersed that with Croatia and Portugal.

Already booked Greece (stoupa) for this year but already thinking something different for 2026.

Thinking spain, but i dont know much about resorts there. So this is what im looking for;

-Quiet resort with enough restaurants for the week. No loud music or any sort of late bars.
-fishing village sort of vibe

- sandy shallow beach

- not a huge transfer from the airport

Anyone have any ideas?

Port De Soller in Majorca pretty much ticks all of those boxes and then some. Well worth looking at.

Portugal with the boys next Thursday on a golf trip⛳

Then road trip down Italys adriatic side to Puglia then over to Amalfi coast!!

Looking foward to a great summer!

Puglia is like something out of a dream. Absolutely stunning

We've just booked Chania in Crete for a couple of weeks in May and June. Never been so I'm happy to take any advice and recommendations.

Only a bus ride away is Maleme where this place is....never eaten better in Greece (well not much anyway).

Also close by to the Taverna if it's of interest a small RAF war memorial and a massive German war cemetery/museum which is really interesting and a bit eerie. The main Allies cemetery isn't far away either from Chania.

We love Afitos in Halkidiki in Greece and are gonna book it for the third time for 2026. Lovely little Greek village on top of a cliff.

A fine selection of tavernas and shops around the village, with a long row of taverna's along part of the cliff too, looking out across the sea to the next Halkidiki peninsula.

Perfect for me and the missus to chill out around the hotel on the cliff edge looking out over the sea or down on the beach with it's calm, warm water, followed by delicious Greek cuisine in the evening and a nice stroll around with no dickheads and party bars.

We'll probably keep going back as we feel we've found our little place in the sun that we think is great.

So if you have a criminal record you need a us visitor visa?
The US uses an entry system called ESTA, you fill in a form online and they check everything and your stay is pre-approved before you go so you avoid a visa. This lasts 2 years so you can go multiple times without reapplying but you're supposed to keep it updated for every trip.

It's only good though for straightforward people so presumably if you have a criminal record, have a Muslim sounding name, have been to dodgy places or done anything funny in their eyes then you might not be approved. If approved it'll at least raise questions for the immigration officer to ask when you arrive. They even ask for your social media accounts so that they can check them.

It does ask for example ask whether you have ever been arrested, or have a criminal record, nobody knows if that means an instant rejection so presumably they can check. Any rejection means applying for a visitor visa instead. I would have thought that any serious criminal record would be an instant no for a visitor visa too.
