Hollands pies and puds

I don't eat meat any more, gave up in 1987, but I remember Hollands steak and kidney puddings from back in the 1980s. At the right chippy, usually small town ones catering for locals with a set clientele, were superb.

I had an evening job whilst at school and worked at my local. The pay was crap but just before the place closed, the boss used to let me pick my supper. I always had a Hollands, a nice piece of battered cod, a mound of chips, salt and vinegar, a big dollap of mushy peas and then a ladle of curry sauce across the lot. He'd let me put it to one side and heat it up. We'd shut up shop and clean the place up and then I was out of there like a greyhound out of the traps and home. I'd sit in the kitchen about 2.00am and scoff the lot. Used to wake up and straight out for the school bus the next morning.

Happy days.

I don't ever recall having a nice Hollands, or anthing for that matter in the city centre. The whole situation is about mass production and food being re-heated and basically, no disrespect as I've been there myself many times, but feeding the throw-outs from the pub who will eat anything.

You greedy bastard ;.)

They do them at Antonios on Piccadilly Approach (The road leading up to the station), but probably not best to actually go there unless you have a good level of bacterial lining on your intestine. I do.

Isn't Tibb Street chippy meant to be belting? Otherwise, there's the one on Portland Street, next to that really small pub thingeemajig.

I doff my cap in your choice of pie squire

Oi Scall, dont diss Antonio's had many a lining there before memorable days watching the Blues, the ash in the all day breakfast (at about 6am) always set us up right for the day ahead.

All this info will prove to be invaluable over the next week, I thank you all. As it turns out, my mate picked us up at the hotel with a piping hot Hollands meat pie from his local chippy in wilmslow and whisked us off to Prestwich to see Steve Diggle do an acoustic set. Might go to Chester today in search of pies. Oh, and I'm definitely going to that chophouse before I go back.

You'll struggle to find a decent chippy in Chester

However there is one that does Hollands pies on lower bridge street
Wouldn't go near the chips though

Couple of decent pubs though, harkers on the canal on city road (near the station) is good for food and Telfords to the west of the centre next to the canal again is good for beer

Once visited a company in Blackburn, and had my dinner (lunch for the posh people) in the staff canteen. There were a range of pies on offer, so I asked what sort they were.
"Hollands" came back the reply!

If you go to Chorlton Street bust station there is a chippy there

No way would I recommend the chips, but they do Hollands pies if you are stuck
I like the idea of a bust station
around Chorlton street bus station has everything you need, as long as you have the money

You'll fill your boots in the chop house mate.
