Home hi fi.

Here is a daft question but I will ask it anyway.
I want a soundbar for my Samsung telly.
My wife hates speakers of any kind in the house. She has been known to stick one behind the sofa before now just to hide it so not a chance she will let me have a sub woofer as well as the soundbar.
Can anybody recommend a decent Soundbar without the woofer or is that making the whole thing not worth having?
You could consider a soundbar with integrated woofer. That way, the missus need never know. I've supplied a link below to a reasonably priced one from Currys that's received decent reviews.

I have a Sonos Beam soundbar and 2 of the rear speakers you can get from Ikea. They did a collab with Sonos to build some speakers that look better in a home setup. I have one that is supposed to be a shelf, that can be just screwed onto the wall, but you can get a lamp or a picture:

Sound-wise they are the same quality as the normal Sonos products. I personally haven't got a Sub with it, my kids are still fairly young so i don't think it would be of any use for me to get the best out of it. But my mate who does have it says its a game changer, expensive as fuck though. The best thing about it all is the only wires you need are the power ones.

Someone will be along shortly to say you need to spend a billion quid a meter on uranium coated cables and banana plugs hand carved from blood diamonds to get optimum sound quality.

But in all seriousness, check out the Cambridge Audio stuff from Richer Sounds. Fantastic kit for the money.
Biggest con in hifi. Any interconnect or speaker cable that sounds 'different' is broken.

Don’t know what the latest is, but it used to be oxygen free copper cables. For those who believe it makes the sound better, PM me I have some magic beans for sale.

If you measure it, does it make a difference ? Yes the very highest quality cable with high purity will have better conductivity. Can you perceive a difference at the speakers absolutely not.

Cross sectional area does make a difference, due to skin effect, but only at higher frequencies and again the acoustics of the room and the speaker placement will have a larger effect.

How much are your beans mate. Whatever your charging, I'll pay double.

I've just bought a Bose 900 Atmos sound bar. I listened to it in Curry's and was impressed. Ordered from Bose as they allow 90 day return and £200 off for a refurbed model. looking forward to it arriving.
And today it has arrived. First impressions are very good. Excellent sound both for TV and music. I can't put it with a sub, but the app allows a few different settings so I'm quite happy. The proof will be on a film turned right up.
