Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

I definitely remember the "Sack the Board" game.

2-0 win at St Andrews in 88-89. They were doomed to relegation to the third tier, and there was a protest mid-match where some of the home fans attempted to storm the Directors Box.
Once McNab had extended our lead with a floating curving shot (accelerated by a strong wind) the City contingent were happy to support the Brummies.

Even now, I think many older City fans can identify with Birmingham's self inflicted farce and capacity for implosion.
I was there that day! remember fans running along a platform separating the tier’s in the main stand trying to attack the directors box?! The good old days :)

It did start as a safety issue. Their end became that packed that people spilled on to the pitch side. The police decided as the City end wasn’t that full to escort them into the City end.

That of course led to all those who fancied a bit of mither getting down on to the pitch also and ending up in the City end.
100% that is what happened.

I was on crutches ( broken ankle ) for this game so me and my mates didn't bother going down for a beer.
Remember city fans emerging from the concourse in shock and a short time later St John ambulance giving treatment to city fans on the terrace.
Funnily enough never read about that in the press.
Similar here. Decided to stay in my seat for whatever reason. My mate who'd gone down returned saying its just gone mental down there. Never heard a thing

It then got very squashed in the city end as the crowd parted to let the fighters get on with it

I ended up over the fence in with the Geordies in the side paddock
I ended up in the side paddock as well. The police seemed to lose control for a short time, until order was eventually restored and the game was able to continue.

The 5-0 Newcastle game was in 1983. Despite having battered us on the pitch they decided that they wanted to come into our section and batter us! Didn't have many there that day maybe 1,200, memory is a bit sketchy.

We took 5000 that day mate,I remember the City fans kicking the gates in to get at the Newcastle fans who were outside, absolute murders near the train station

No chance, you must be thinking of another game.

Yeah, I’m with this guy. Not watched the video but I’m near to certain as you can be about something from 40 years ago that we had two small pens and neither was particularly full.

Look at the video I posted above from 2.23 - 2.28, just get a glimpse of our pens. Can't remember if it was one big one or two small but it was very empty. No way was it 5k.
