Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

Not having it.
Away fans were never at the North stand end of the Kippax.
you're right by memory too
they were always pushed in the platt lane end of the kippax
and the rope,i remember that well as a kid
a bloody rope was introduced to keep fans apart
it was in the same place roughly where the metal fences went up eventually to keep fans apart

i remember seeing a luton fan in a night game walk in front of us at half time once
on his way back he got jumped and was seriously beaten in front of me
i must of been 8 to 12 years old 1974 to 78

How bad was it at Maine Road?

Read some stuff in the week and a few guys from London firms said they respected City firms as they were always up for a fight and they didn't like going to Maine Road due to the side streets and it was easy for City firms to get them into dead ends and corner them.

I started going regularly in 85 and never really seen much of it. Think it was a combination of where we stood(windy corner) from 85-93 and me a my dad always going to Maine Road excalty the same same, think maybe he was shielding me away from that as in 85 I was 10.

The worst I seen was the Derby in 89, Leeds boxing Day when it all kicked off in the North Dtand(think that was 89 or 90) and bizarrely Oldham when away fans were in the North Stand. It was 3-3 at half time and turned very nasty.

Seen a couple of fights outside but my dad quickly changed course. Early 90's and my teenage years I never really seen anything.

Was it bad at Maine Road or quiet in compressions l with other grounds at the time?

Wasn't really THAT much to shout about in the 90's for hooligans , just the odd bad day when the likes of Millwall and Birmingham showed up , but there didn't appear to be too many other incidents that i was aware off ..... the 80's had it's moments on the hooligan front, yes ..... but by far THE worst time for hooliganism was in the 70's, simply because the police hadn't got to grips with it in that decade , crowd segregation was, in the main, pretty poor., and at some places practically non-existent!

Mid 80's v West Ham and loads of them going in the Main Stand doing the Oakie Cokie. They then congregated after the game at the far end of Maine Road and then marched / charged up Maine Road chanting Irons Irons Irons..... Kicking City fans all over the place.

The following season they tried it again and after the game the biggest City crew I'd ever seen was outside waiting. Half of Moss Side's young males were there, chased and battered the Hammers. They stood out like a sore thumb mostly wearing yellow Slazenger jumpers.
Wasnt it the conga Screamer?

Along with the events listed on here, i remember it being really tasty against Chelsea in the early 2000s, all the way back to picadily. Coventry taking liberties by ruxhing the north stand due to a last inute City goal, Chelsea at the 11.00 am Kick off in the late eighties, Sheff Utd midweek. Its all flooding back

Remember wgen Colin Bell made his come back against Newcastle
Never seen as much violence then
City & Newcastle going toe to toe inside entrance to Kippax no one giving way then City fans starting lobbing bricks from top of Kippax
Hitting every fu*ker mad days

Didnt say away fans
Only the rags
It happened
Why i would i say it did if it didnt ?
If you dont believe me that ok
I aint going to change your mind but i remember it well
Away fans was always the the paddock and Platt lane mate
