Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

Could never stick that Anthony Wilson , arrogant tw@t .... the guy was full of himself.

H'e a bit like that other arrogant and smug cretin, Terry Christian .... what a clueless rag prick he is!

I heard an interview with Steve Coogan where he said someone said to him 'Manchester's number 1 arrogant prick played by Manchester's number 2 arrogant prick' about his role playing Tony Wilson in 24hr Party People' :)

Yep, and i was on a bus on Portland Steet in the city centre about 6 o'clock , and there was City and Chelsea fans fighting in the middle of the main road there!
Yes, it had kicked off like fuck in the Cyprus Tavern ... that was a really bad evening out in town !! ...

I remember when Wilson got chased out of The Rusholme Chippy. Someone came in The Clarence and said they had just seen him go in. So a few of us went across and gave him some verbal about some snide comment he had made about City. There was no threatening or in his face stuff and no time was anyone going to attack him but he did one and left his Chips.
Would regard Wilson as s typical Rag gob shite indulging in bants were he not a Granada presenter. Taking the piss out of City when we lost to a team from another region was not on, always hoped some blues would shut him up.

Used to live in bullrings in Hulme as a kid and the Russell Club was directly behind us. One day we spotted Tony Wilson giving a load of Suits a tour of the club and then taking them to the local shops via a walkway under the flats. Knowing they were likely to come back the same way me and my mates raided our fridges for eggs and lay in wait on the top floor. You should have seen them run.

i used to live in those Bullrings in Hulme too mate , although it was the in the 70's.

Lived on Charles Barry from 71 to 80 was aged 6 when we moved there had 9 great years loved the place.

Aaah , i was on John Nash form 1969-1979 .... good times , we used to play footie on the library car park, and on Birley High School ... Hulme in those days was a hell of a place!

I was about 12 when i moved there ... one of my mates lived on Charles Barry.

I still go down there quite often , but it's full of student accomodation and new housing now ... althought the Zion , and the Hippodrome are still there.
