Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

I’ve perused a few hooligan books in Airport Departure Lounges, and I’m probably not the only one who immediately searches for the incidents involving City

Birmingham reference the 82-83 goalless draw at Maine Road, which apparently provided the Zulu nickname (and it makes sense if you remember that the violence after their 2007-08 defeat at the ETIHAD was also their 25th anniversary, and the main reason why so many of their old “boys” were out in force that day)

Leeds cite an ambush after their 3-2 victory at Maine Road in November 1977 as their main motivation for the revenge attacks at the FA Cup the following January.

West Ham claim to thave thrown Daft Donald through a Wimpey window,(which sounds feasible), but all their books seem to admire City, especially WANT SOME AGGRO which chronicles the late 60s and early 70s

Went to Wolves in 1975 when we won 4-0, got chased out of the ground towards the end of the game

Molyneux was never a good place to go in those days , segregation was poor or non existent, and you really had to watch your back in that massive South Bank ....

The subway behind that stand was always dodgy to walk past too ...

A lot of people get their ‘Donald’s’ mixed up. Even some blues

For the sake of clarification, the West Ham book names the victim as "Daft Donald" and even ridicules his nickname.
Apparently, it was a different Donald, but to be honest,I'm not particularly bothered, as it doesn't really change the mood of the time.

No worries, wasn’t having a pop. Many people (even blues) think Daft Donald (Donald Farrar) is Donald Francis. So I can understand West Ham getting mixed up. You’re right though, that it doesn’t really alter the mood of the time.

As a young lad I lived in Newcastle after we moved there in 78 from Gorton.

I used to go to most home matches at Roker Park as they were top flight in them days and then at James park on the other week as were 2nd division

I can honestly say them geordies and mackams are all proper loonies
What part of Gorton mate.

They were certainly in the kippax on the day in question, but after a large bout of trouble just prior to half time you never saw them again .

Their claim to have 'taken the kippax' is laughable ... as is Coventrys to have taken Maine Road!
Couldn't agree more mate, I was on the Kippax that day against Birmingham 16 years old, they just melted away when it got serious. But the pricks making the claim just wouldn't listen and wern't even born mate.

Subway Army was their main crew IIRC, I was at that 4-0 win it was very iffy before, during and after. On the way in our coach driver (Derek Sutton) got involved with a Wolves lad who spat on his coach, Derek banged his head against the side of the coach, Big Helen had to drag him off or he might have done some serious damage. When we got in the ground the same lad was stood next to the line of a few cops that was what passed for segregation, it was a very tense afternoon.

I went 1977 when we grew 1-1
Kicking off all over the South Bank

I've been going since 1968 and I don't remember anyone taking the kippax although many have had a go. There was loads of Chelsea in there at the second leg of the cup winners cup semi final.in.1971 but they were under constant attack. I remember a group of Liverpool being in that kind of open area between the scoreboard and the kippax very early seventies and a ring of police with truncheons drawn fighting off City fans attacking them. I think it was just too big an area for anyone to conquer.
