House Of The Dragon (GOT Prequel)

It’s 100% a Sky bandwidth issue and it also plagued Game of Thrones with so many complaints about the picture quality.

I have a top of the range Samsung Q95T and when watching other streaming services or a 4k blu ray the picture is incredible.

For whatever reason, Sky picture quality is often utter shite and given how much it costs a month it’s unacceptable.

I thought it was fun if a little formulaic. Gratuitous violence - check, gratuitous nudity in whore house - check, scheming relatives - check, scheming councillors - check, tart with a heart - check.

Maybe the characters were not as well sketched as I can remember the start of GoT. Mrs S given up on it already so further watching will be a solitary pleasure.

Having watched all those reviews @TCIB it’s completely given me a new perspective and certainly explains why some fans were gutted by how it panned out. I might go back and see if I can read up on how the writers responded to all these often valid criticisms.

Unrelentingly negative the Critical Drinker isn’t he? Did he produce more balances / positive reviews for every episode of seasons 1-7? Having watched those, I find it hard to imagine him being positive! Apart from his jarring use of spaz/spastic, he makes some telling points & devastating take-downs. I’d been so wrapped up in the story outcomes when I watched it, I hadn’t really considered many of them.
He must have found some redeeming features - or maybe not.

Thanks for your replies too @willipp pal. I can certainly see the faults more clearly now, for better or worse, and appreciate what you say about the source books, which I’ve never read, so I guess that’s a big issue on my part.

I suppose it was a victim of its own success in raising the bar of expectation so so high, that to conclude in any satisfying way was going to be a really difficult challenge.

It’s better to travel hopefully than arrive, so maybe I’m just going to enjoy the journey on this new series ;-)
He loved it up to season 6. Season 7 and 8 is where the issues were due to no more direction from the author. The writers were simply not up to the job and they also rushed it as they had been hired by Star Wars to write those. Ironically they got fired from that for being useless hehe.

Seen this flying around a few years ago. Sums what happened with the writing up perfectly.

Enjoyed it, probably won't be as magical as the first 6-7 seasons of GoT but I like what I've seen so far.

Yeah, that Enter the House of the Dragon with Sue Perkins is a great watch.
Potted History of the GOT Universe to boot.

Liked the first episide, but as soon as limbs and heads started to be hacked off and the fake orgasms started, I thought, urghh, do I really need to see this again? Sure what the hell, why not.
