How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

People saying they'd take EFTA now pretty much sums that up, doesn't it.

Brexit itself wasn't a 'failure', it worked. We left the EU. It did exactly as it was intended to do. The current 'failure' comes from the refusal to adopt the sensible strategy, one supported by the EU themselves. Sadly, neither Labour nor the Lib Dems were interested, they kept listening to the short-sighted idiots who felt that remaining was going to happen. Remaining was never going to happen, but rather than choose the sensible idea, you all chose to put your wind behind the impossible.

Just imagine the outcome had the remainers put their efforts into demanding EFTA membership rather than trying to overturn the referendum result, seen by a lot of people as anti-democratic, thus losing the majority support. Put more effort into backing something as the easy-swayed politicians would definitely have put their backing as well. But, you didn't.

Meanwhile those of us who did opt for EFTA/similar, just sighed, rolled with the memes and buckled up for the eventual shitshow as the Tories/ERG lot and the hard brexiteers inevitably got into power and did things their way by appealing to the 'uphold democracy' argument. I'm not saying its your fault, per se... but you weren't exactly helping the situation with your whining. :)
You didn't opt for EFTA/similar because you weren't asked. You opted for Brexit, and the version of Brexit we've got is on you and every other person that voted for it irrespective of what version of Brexit they really wanted. Blaming the shit show on those that voted against it is a little desperate and somewhat pathetic.

Ah there's that nuanced, subtle, compromising approach that could have led us to EFTA if we'd only listened.
Oh we are way, WAY beyond that point now.

Especially with the brexit bores.

So you accept its a failure but its all remainers fault. You need to give it up. Brexit and the disastrous result is and always will be the fault of the fools that voted for it. At least many now accept they were misled.

Labour will win the next election and 80% of Labour voters are pro EU membership. The tories are going to get what they deserve. I look forward to the start of the process that will see us rejoin.
Hey, don't worry about it.

I opted to leave the European Union in a national referendum.

It was those who were voted into Parliament who executed the decision to leave in the manner we did.

Aaand i'm pretty sure I said I didn't think it was your fault, just that you weren't helpful in avoiding what it became. But hey, you believe what you want, boo.

Thanks for stating the bleeding obvious. And just to reiterate you didn’t opt for EFTA because you weren’t asked.

You're having the difficulty in understanding that in order to become a member of the EFTA one must first vote to leave the EU?

We were asked one question. All the other subsequent questions, "How do we leave?" "When do we leave?" "In what manner do we leave?" came later.

I'd have thought the first thing would be to ask whether EFTA wanted us if we left the EU.

that was entirely Cameron's decision. He couldn't be arsed to actually have the argument about how complex Brexit would be, how many compromises it would have to entail - so he assumed could just trust the voters to defeat the right wing of his party for him. In the process he handed his enemies a blank cheque called 'brexit' and allowed them to define what it meant in retrospect. The blame for that blank cheque lies on the guy who issued it and the voters who signed it

EFTA advocates and Lexiters two cheeks of the same arse. More interested in their fantasies and the world as they imagine it should be, than the real world as it actually is.

Couldn't be arsed? We had an entire year boring everyone to death talking about it. It all boiled down to "if you vote leave you're a racist" or "We want our country back".

Meanwhile, those of us making the arguments for rejoining EFTA or similar once we leave, were shouted down. We had our game plan, the rest of you weren't on the same page because you thought you were fighting some culture war. And just to clarify, are you against the UK rejoining the EFTA?
