How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

The libdems have always seemed (to me) a bit of a cop out party, for people who refuse to vote for either of the 2 main parties. A vote splitter.
The UK would probably be better off without the lib dems..
Other parties, (greens etc) take up a very small portion of the total electorate, which makes negligible difference to the allocation of seats.

The main issue is FPTP. My home town hasn't had a labour MP since 1945-1950 (the first and last) but up until very recently was a hotly contested orange-blue marginal.

Labour has very little appeal outside of densely populated urban areas or the more working class towns in the South West. So as long as FPTP remains they are a necessary alternative to Tory bastards.

Well English brexit supporters won’t be voting will they and that was what I responded to.
No, but English Brexiteers actions may be what changes the views of the wavering voters in Scotland. So yes they will have more einfluence on any outcome than Scottish Nationalists will.

It won't though, the Scottish nationalists will have voted Yes last time and will again. The difference makers if there is a Yes vote will be those that voted No last time. So those that aren't Scottish Nationalist for ideological reasons will be the ones with the biggest influence, and their reasons for a change of heart..

The day before the referendum, Cameron made promises to the Scots.
The day after the referendum, he stood up in the Commons and announced plans which undermined those promises (e.g. preventing Scottish MPs voting on English matters).

That was unbelievably stupid politically and entirely vindictive to placate his backbenches. It will be brought up again the next time around as perfidious Albion and ifJohnson is still around, he will be of no use/intention to get a No vote.

I doubt Johnson would want to go down in history as the PM who "lost" Scotland and broke a 300 year old union - I think its also beyond him to realise the best hope he has of saving it is stepping down from the office of PM.

Dropping Scotland and NI gives the Conservatives a huge benefit in the Commons!

No-one knows how a second referendum demand will play out - Johnson will refuse permission, which leaves... well, who knows where it all ends up.

They already reap that benefit irrespective, don’t they?

I think he or any Tory leader could kill off Scottish independence in one stroke and solve the N.Ireland border issues, and many others too very easily if he had the will. Just join the single market solves nearly all the issues, except he has made that ideologically impossible for himself. Another leader could though quite easily, and eventually will.
