How Do We Stop Turning into That Which We hate ?

Might be to intellectual a question for some on here

Discussed this with Blues recently and most far brighter than me, it pans out this way.

We are unique as a fan base down the years, bright ,witty and all out for a good time, an away match was a collective craic for everyone.
Even now songs that are beyond anything constructed by other teams fans,we leave everyone standing in our collective humour and intelligence.

But
In years to come the line in our fan base is drawn to post and Pre Glory years.

Pre Glory is awareness of who we are and where we came from with all the joy and sadness. The wit and reparptee, the dont give a f..k attitude.

Post Glory and I guess many many years of trophy winning all the sadness and joy we had at small success is forgotten.

The new fans we will attract in time will outnumber those of us today and all brought up on trophy after trophy my fear is that we will mirrer image that which we hate.
Is it inevitable ?

My fear is that it is

We will have gained but also lost a vital part of who we as a fan base are.

Maybe we need a Blue Rawk to instruct new blues the legacy passed down and that new fans understand we are different from all others, we are unique as a fan base and always will be but that depends on you and me.

Any suggestions ?
.

yes. we need to start playing shit again and nip these expectations in the bud

We need to stop obsessing about turning into rags.

We're not and we never will be.

Taking the piss every now and then, having a laugh, being confident in our club and players is not raggish behaviour no matter how desperate people are to link us to them.

Good post, moomba.

Sentiments like that in the original post are nothing but nu-football internet playground tosh.

With regards to this "arrogance" nonsense which keeps getting spouted. If you have a team full of world stars who are top of the league, if you have any kind of football knowledge about you, you expect them to win against inferior opposition. You realise that sometimes things go wrong, but it is not "arrogant" or "raggish" to have high expectations of a good team.

In fact that confidence on their own ability and refusal to accept second best just won this group of players and management the league.

We are not Man United, we will never be Man United. Neither were we ever the most "special" or "wittiest" fans in the world. We're just City fans with a lifetime of shared experiences behind us. Now we've got a good team those experiences are getting better and better.

Drink it in.

The day we turn into the rags is the day I will grow up and find a proper hobby like stamp collecting or train spotting

Don't do that!

Educate (indoctrinate) the new and younger fans, it worked for my kids (much to the disgust of my wife who now has to watch even more TV upstairs when we are on the box as she is now in a minority of 1)

Couple of things which might be controversial... I actually don't agree with the songs being new and original and better than anything out there... we have one song!! One song... Blue Moon... and that's it!! And we nicked that off Crewe.

Yes, we have the invisible man.... fair enough! The Balotelli one, the words are original but Liverpool were using the same tune a while back. We've even nicked the This is how it feels to be City off Manure...

... and here's the thing... in my mind, both Liverpool and Manure have been coming out with original songs for years... using popular themes and tunes but with their own lyrics... pro-Liverpool, anti-City... whatever... But I actually think we've been crap at coming up with songs... proper songs, not like the Edin Dzeko chant which is class... but proper songs like 'my old man' etc...

We need to sort it out.

In terms of the 'new' fan.... London matches have been full of 'new' fans or at least unfamiliar faces for years...

We will grow our fanbase, it's undoubted... but think about the home matches, we've sold out 36,000 season tickets... these are more likely to be Manchester based in the main regular season ticket holders who have renewed...

So, at home matches, it should still be the same old crowd, irrespective of how popular we become, until at least we expand the ground. The away matches, due to the points system SHOULD be the same but London matches are slightly different.

In all, irrespective of how many Facebook fans we have or new fans coming on board due to our (continued) success... actually going to a match should still be the same as it ever was.

>>>This is a myth... my mate played for Crewe back then and doesn't remember EVER hearing it. Does anybody remember hearing it? Does anybody recollect it being known as a Crew song... untill somebody said we nicked it... bollox!

>>> nicked it? We just changed the words to a popular song to taunt them with... thats normal!

>>> My old man.... sung by City in late 60's..... How long have you been a blue? We have some of the best chants ever... hey Jude for one... nicked by united for 'keanooo'.
'Drink a drink' (Lily the Pink) is another one nicked by united.....

We need to sort it out.

Agree with this, it's getting silly now all the bloody worrying. It's not crossed my mind once, I don't find myself ever worrying about the rags at all. They play no part in my thought process. I think some of our fans are being a little precious.

And the OP is having a laugh if he thinks this thread is intellectual. He'd get eaten in off topic.

It's not preciousness, it's idiocy, mate, and a touch of "reds under the bed" paranoia.

The silly talk of the young internet/pub football fan.
