How Do We Stop Turning into That Which We hate ?

Might be to intellectual a question for some on here

Discussed this with Blues recently and most far brighter than me, it pans out this way.

We are unique as a fan base down the years, bright ,witty and all out for a good time, an away match was a collective craic for everyone.
Even now songs that are beyond anything constructed by other teams fans,we leave everyone standing in our collective humour and intelligence.

But
In years to come the line in our fan base is drawn to post and Pre Glory years.

Pre Glory is awareness of who we are and where we came from with all the joy and sadness. The wit and reparptee, the dont give a f..k attitude.

Post Glory and I guess many many years of trophy winning all the sadness and joy we had at small success is forgotten.

The new fans we will attract in time will outnumber those of us today and all brought up on trophy after trophy my fear is that we will mirrer image that which we hate.
Is it inevitable ?

My fear is that it is

We will have gained but also lost a vital part of who we as a fan base are.

Maybe we need a Blue Rawk to instruct new blues the legacy passed down and that new fans understand we are different from all others, we are unique as a fan base and always will be but that depends on you and me.

Any suggestions ?

For me never forget who we are. Don't take winning for granted, and enjoy each trophy won as though it was the first one won for over 30+ years like we celebrated for the FA Cup (2011) and League this season.

This.

It's also upto the "older" generation - those over 30 - to remind the newer fans what being part of the City family is all about.

I remind my daughter all the time just how bloody lucky she is to have seen us win 2 trophies in the 6 years she's been a season ticket holder!!!!!! Whenever she complains about a misplaced pass I tell her about Richard Edghills own goal against Coventry to put things in perspective (I loved his never say die attitude - but that's his footnote in Citys history for me :-)).

I all ways tell my lad about how it used to be, that we were in the second and third tier but the majority of the ground was full, the away days were still the same but on a different level now. the support was great if not better then.
He once said that its about winning, i stopped and put him right, i told him when we are going through a tough patch that it is imperative to stick with the club like we did and don't expect to win all the time, its important to know how to lose and then you can appreciate how to win, in all walks of life. That's what being City is all about.
I think the way forward is not just to remember the Buzzers and Bells but the Weavers and the Morrisons.
And Aguero,s and Silvas all under the same breath.
But all ways respect the opposition.

Having finally achieved the acknowledged status of the best team in the league maybe we can drop the arrogant chant of "We'll buy your club and burn it down".
My supporters club opened up it's membership from 300 to 600 last season. It acquired enough knobheads to persuade me not to bother joining this season after enjoying the previous 8 years with them.
Sign of the times.

Here's a novel suggestion based on what happened to me a few seasons ago when Arsenal were giving us our customary beating. Eduardo scored what I thought was a magnificient goal and before I knew it I was actually applauding it. A couple were sat next to me and then woman nagged her husband into doing the same (and he did).

Now I'm not going to be applauding Rooney even if he put one in off two floodlights deliberately, but I do think there is something in being magnanimous in victory. With our current resources we are going to beat lesser teams regularly - but when those teams play decent football why can't we appreciate that? Not suggesting we cheer on teams to beat us, but let's be confident enough that out team will triumph 90+% of the time.

Puts on tin hat.

I was telling a kid who was thinking of supporting City the other day not to join just because of the last couple of trophies. I told him if he really feels in his heart that he is a City fan to learn about the history about the club and what it means to support us. Watch a few matches, see the fan's do the Poznan and understand why we hate the Scum.

I know it probably wont matter but it doesn't hurt to try!

I'm not worried at all yet. The past two or three seasons have seen some of the most 'City-like' moments imaginable. From Alan, through the rise of the Poznan (and all its grandmas), the taking and defending of the roundabout, to everyone do the throw-in, the banter with Joey grows ever stronger. I've never felt so happy about being a blue in the stands. We've been lucky insofar as the past few years have seen remarkable success at home, but when we've been up against it, mostly we've backed the team all the way. Two of the best games for atmosphere last season were the rags in the cup and Chelsea.

To me, that encapsulates what it is to be a City fan, and yes, I do think we are pretty special. I make no apologies for this 'arrogance' because there's virtually no club in the world who can have a neighbour as big as ours, and manage 28k in a third flight of their domestic system. We should have pride in ourselves. As long as we can indoctrinate any newcomers into our culture, we're fine, and I happen to think it's infectious.

Nothing you can do about it mate, it's inevitable it will happen, glory hunters, hangers on, call them whatever we want they are just a part of life in general these days. I welcome anybody who wants to support City, they have as much right as me or my dad before me or his dad before him, some will be wankers some won't.
I spent my teens and early 20's on The Kippax now i live in Australia and watch every game on TV at stupid o'clock, i'm no more or no less a City fan than somebody who's had a season ticket for 50 years or a kid from Abu Dhabi who saw Aguero's goal and now wants a City top with 16 on the back.
The owners have done an amazing job so far with every aspect of the club and i trust them to keep the great history of the club in the minds of all fans old and new.
Seeing Summerbee crying at Newcastle and himself, Tony Book and all the other City legends on the pitch before the presentation was as tear jerking for me as the lifting of the trophy itself and simple things like that make me think that we will never lose our identity as a club

We ARE different though. We are Manchester city fans, always have been, always will be.
Winning trophies is totally immaterial to that.
We've proved it over and over again.

To the op, we are what we are and will remain so.

Does anyone really think we will ever be as big the rags or Assenal? Not a chance in hell. I honestly think we won't be worldly liked and respected until Manure place fourth behind Spurs on Newcastle. It will take the rags disappearing and us being on top for consecutive years. And even then we will still most likely be blamed for buying football. I'm okay with that. People don't have to get it. We're the true sign of struggle and work ethic, and being reward for it.
