How do you assess our transfer business?

So we're likely to still be shipping off Garcia, Adarabioyo, possibly Zinchenko, and maybe a few others for the loan army. Think the likes of Bernabe and Nmecha could use a loan. Maybe an incoming LB if Zinny is off but other than that don't see any more incomings for the first team.

I think we got it about right in this window, I have a feeling we expected a reset on pricing due to COVID that didn’t happen, it has even more of a chance of happening next year so I think there was a case of keeping your powder dry a little.

As the money drains out of football, as a lot of big owners feel commercial pressures, as the revenue streams dry up; this is when there will be value in the market, could be January could be next summer.

I think we are playing a safe waiting game on this but also following the strategy of one or two per year and bringing youth through as stated by the chairman over the last few years.

So as far as this window is concerned I think we played it right and bar one potential surprise (a long shot granted) I don’t expect anything else to happen.

Peps says our transfer business is done. Diaz looks like a good signing, Ake strengthens us because Laporte gets a lot of injuries and I think he’ll miss a lot of games again this season.

Not addressing LB again is criminal and a major weakness in our transfer strategy, it’s been a problem for a number of seasons now. I know Ake can play there but he is not a specialist LB.

I think we’ll struggle again at times this season. Weakness at LB, lack of energy at DM and lack of cover upfront for Aguero, who I expect to spend a large amount of time out injured unfortunately. I think we could be in for a similar season to last season. Good but not quite good enough.

Totally agree with @Hesperus and I don't understand that if Tagliafico is valued at £28m we don't just buy him. Offer them Angelino or Zinchenko as a sweetener. When Mendy plays well he looks class but that happens once a quarter and he's a liability. I'm not asking for Roberto Carlos, just someone who's competent and doesn't fuck up once a game. For the money, if he tanks we'll get most of it back.

We also need a central midfielder. Auoar looks the part and for £50m even if he isn't world class we'l get most of it back again. He's looked very good every time I've seen him and can run quicker than me which we need in our midfield.

It's up front which is really grating with me. We've played 3 games this season and now have NO recognised strikers to pick from. It's an absolute joke. If money is tight, then let's speak to Barcelona about them having Garcia for £10m or whatever they are offering (let's get this fucker off the books now) and ask them about loaning us Dembele for the year with an option to buy.

It's pretty simple to me, we look no better (so far) than we were last year. Given that other teams (Chelsea, United, Arsenal and maybe Spurs) have strengthened and we finished miles behind Liverpool we're going to come up short again. I honestly don't think a fully fit Kompany for the season could swing it round for us.

Get the chequebook out, get the players in. Simple :)

I’ve just listened to the latest Statsbomb podcast. They work for a lot of top clubs and help them with their recruitment via their analytical models.

Their opinion is that City used to be very good but in the last couple of years have let it slip and are relying too much on the subjectivity of TB rather than what is actually best for the team.

Their view was that Torres might turn out OK, Ake would not solve our defensive problems and Dias was a surprising choice given the analytics.

Overall they thought we had had a below average window.

I don’t necessarily agree with them and time will tell but it was interesting to get a specialist opinion from a company that usually praise City’s transfer decisions.

Liverpool isn’t one of their clubs but they said yet again their analytical department had bought well and were leaving other clubs behind.

It wasn’t all bad news though...United are terrible!

Sounds like absolute bollocks to me and exactly why analysts alone aren't the answer in football scouting.

Torres will be okay? Hmmm. Ake would not solve our defensive problems? Hmmm x 2. Dias has poor analytics. Hmmmm x 3.

Liverpool are leaving other clubs behind how exactly? Seems to me they're living off Mane and Salah coming in cheap. Outside of that what exactly is this amazing business they've done. All their other signings are either big money or failures. In Keita's case, both.

It must have been written by somebody on Bluemoon..

TBH, I'm finding the levels of negativity around City quite funny. Not just Bluemoon. I listened to the Totally Football Podcast earlier today. To a man they're sure that Leeds beat City because to a man they all believe that City are fucked. Different versions of the Bluemoon tango (Pep can't organise a defence, City's defenders are shit, Rodri is shit, they can't score goals without Aguero).

Maybe it's because in general 2020 has been so weird, but things that used to bother me just amuse me now.
