How many games can we realistically afford to lose?

I don't, as GDM put it, have the stomach for battles we shouldn't be fucking fighting. This shouldn't be World War 2. This should be the US airforce bombing the shit out of Saddam's tanks in the Gulf War.
I'm surprised you, of all posters, has used that particular analogy.

WW2 was much more fertile ground for an interesting narrative than the First Gulf War, which is why they've made so many more great films about it.
I'm sorry, I don't know much about the Second World War.

Then let me educate you. Look upon yesterday as our Dunkirk :-)

No, that would have been if we were beaten by the rags at home. This is more like the Germans in the Ardennes in 1944.
You seemed to have acquired a great deal of knowledge on the subject of WW2 in the last twelve minutes. Wikipedia's a wonderful thing ;-)

I reckon with 6 games to go they will be around 5 points between the top 6 teams how exciting is that!!! Heart attack exciting ;)

I was angry yesterday, although frustration is the key for me.

This title race would and should be over already if we had got the maximum haul against Cardiff, Stoke and now Villa.

United would be out of the equation and that type of momentum would require a major blow up.

In saying all that, I don't think Arsenal can sustain the pressure of a full-tilt title assault.

It's still ours for the taking and I expect us to do so.

Even 7 points would have seen us 10 points ahead of ManU and 6 clear of Chelsea. With 6 games gone. We really blew the kind run of fixtures that kicked off the season. Arsenal are starting to worry me a little but like Chelsea they are short on firepower so I'm inclined to agree they won't keep it up. Squad and team wise its still difficult to see past us as title winners. The problem is the faultline that runs through the team when pressure is applied.

The PL has been won by points totals ranging from 75 to 95. The teams winning it with relatively low points don't seem to be that much inferior to those winning it by large totals.

It could well be the case that this year a relatively low points total could be enough.

Usually its not so much a case of how many games you can afford to lose, more about avoiding draws.

Realistically 5 or 6 losses and we should be crowned champions, i think the tops teams will all take points off each other possibly giving a little more wiggle room.
